You Can Do The Perfect Blow Dry at Home!

    By Tammy | March 5, 2008

blow-dry2.jpgWhether your hair is long or short, learning how to do the perfect blow dry from home will bring you many days of good hair!  Plus it saves you time in your overall beauty routine and reduce the damage to your hair since you won’t need to blow dry and use a flat iron.  Start by watching this video that walks you through the steps below. It will take practice and you’ll need to build strength in your arms, especially if you have long hair!

The Steps to a Perfect Blow Dry from Home:

    1. Comb wet hair with a wide tooth comb.

    2. Apply product to your hair. Comb through to ensure even distribution.

    3. Rough dry your hair until it is 80% dry. Use your fingers to move your hair around to ensure you are getting the roots dry as well.

    4. Divide your hair into sections using clips. Start drying at the bottom using a natural bristle round brush or a ceramic round brush.

    5. Blow out each section, as shown on the video, and you’ll end with smooth, natural-looking straight hair.

    6. Use a curling iron on the ends if desired.

    7. Finish with a spritz of hairspray.

TIP: If you find that your hair is too tightly curled under on the ends, use a paddle brush and go back over the problem areas with the blow dryer.

Learning to do the perfect blow dry at home really will be worth the time invested. It took me years of rough dry, flat iron and curling irons to finally figure out that the right round brush and a blow dryer works better and saves me time in the long run. I wash and dry my hair at night and have 2 days worth of good hair before having to do it again (And that’s a good thing as I have THICK hair and it is time consuming to do …but SO worth it!) Give it a shot, I think you’ll be please that you mastered the technique. Oh, but don’t expect it to be as good as your stylist can do…it will never happen. Stylists are magical :)

Thanks so much for this article! I’ve got hair down to my waist and its constantly put in a tight bun. I brushed it out this morning and its obvious I need a trim now, bad times! I have thick hair also, maybe I should try the 2 day thing you do? Most likely, I need a change in my hair lol

Thanks Tammy! I already blow-dry with a bristle brush, but I think I start brushing too soon and I don’t do it in sections. I wash and dry my hair every other day, too, but I do it in the morning. Maybe I’ll try it at night. It’ll sure save time getting ready at the beginning of the day :)

Charlie, for sure wash every other day. It keeps your hair healthy and saves styling time!

Great tips…I enjoyed watching the video. It’s always easier to follow instructions if someone is actually showing you how. I was, however, a bit offended when the stylist used the term “suburban” to describe something as “so last year” or “really outdated”. I live in the suburbs and I’m cool (or at least I think I am:)
