Working with a Personal Shopper

A couple weeks ago A Mom in Red High Heels gave away a personal shopper consultation with Equilibrium Design and Consulting. Today I bring you the inside look at what the winner is receiving. It’s an exciting process and Cassidey (the winner, shown below) and Miriam (the consultant) have agreed to share this journey with us! Here is Part 1:

Hi, Readers! Tammy and I had thought it would be not only fun but informative to journal the personal shopping experience from the A Mom In Red High Heels contest offered earlier this month by Equilibrium Design and Consulting.

Our winner Cassidey was thrilled to receive her free personal shopping consultation and was eager to get started. Cassidey is a law student and is not only involved in the interview process, but already working an internship where a professional appearance is a daily requirement.

Cassidey resides in the Windy City and wants to find a pulled together, professional yet nonstuffy look for her wardrobe. She also has the weather elements to consider and of course a budget. Being a student doesn’t yet bring her a fulltime paycheck and building a working wardrobe can be very expensive. We are going to try to create the most versatile look we can without diving too deeply into her wallet.

Cassidey and I first reached out to each other and did some initial information gathering, both of us very excited to be working together on her unique needs.

She answered my style questionnaire and gave me tons of great information. Cassidey is eager to work towards her goal and knows what her likes and dislikes are. She is very in tune to her body and also her needs for her future career.

Cassidey is a beautiful young woman with a great shape that you would think could wear just about anything…and she probably can…however, as like all of us, she does have her own personal issues that create some angst for her while shopping. Luckily I felt like all she needed was a great tailor on her side and she can work wonders to make a piece look custom for her but still on a budget! I explained to Cassidey how vintage and thrift shopping can also work to her advantage to buy great collectibles for her wardrobe and with a little extra investment at her tailor can make it her piece. I totally fooled my friends this holiday season with a terrific vintage find! It was a handmade gold lame shift dress that cost me $50 off the rack and another $25 for alterations! This almost identical item was seen in boutiques for hundreds more! I was the envy of the party! That piece is a keeper! Cassidey is young and can work towards building herself a great collection if she only succumbs to trends in her accessory pieces.

Cassidey’s style is classic and functional but sharp. She likes simple, clean lines and rich colors like jewel tones and deep reds. I know that this look will be fabulous on Cassidey so after a 20 min. conversation about some ways she can achieve this I set to work.

Check back with us at A Mom In Red High Heels to see what I’ve found after hitting the mall! I am lucky to live near King of Prussia with one of the largest malls in the country and just about every store you can imagine, from couture to bargain and then everything in between. I will be outlining and defining a wardrobe for Cassidey beginning with the structural foundation pieces and forwarding my selections on to her via email. She then can take the list and hit the stores. When serious shopping is involved we need to leave our friends at home and go it alone to really make progress and strategize. Cassidey needs to visit the various retailers and try on, mix and match and constantly be thinking of what she owns and what she needs to avoid any impulse buying.

Check back soon to find out how successful we are at pulling together a great professional look for Cassidey!

You don’t have to be in the same location to work with a Personal Shopper. Yes but not reality for many. If you live in a rural town, can’t get away for a few hours because you have special needs kids or just a crazy schedule, then why not try a long distance approach like Miriam is offering? If you are interested in finding out more about it, contact Miriam!
