Vote on My Next Hairstyle and Color
By Tammy | December 10, 2008
If you are a regular reader, you know that I have hair issues (at least in my own mind…). I love it then I get bored. I have curl except on the top layer. I have naturally brown hair. I’ve worn it various shades of blond most of my life. I had a bad haircut over a year ago and have been trying to grow it out every since…
Currently, my hair is blond with dark blond low-lights. The length hits my shoulders with the shortest layer about 2 inches higher. I have full bangs.
My hair on an average day.
I’m not opposed to longer side swept bangs. I don’t want a bunch of layers. I want my length (much) longer. I’m in transition. I’m frustrated. Do I cut it? No! Do I pull it up and ignore it? No! Do I look for a transitional reshaping and change the color to give me a fresh look? YES! This is where Erin comes in….
Erin is the owner of the great website My Hairstyling Tools. (I love having friends who work with hair!) Her blog is a wealth of information and her retail site has a ton of quality hairstyling tools so you can have great hair everyday! Since Erin is in the hair industry I thought for sure she could help with my hair dilemma.
What I asked for:
- I want length so I’m not willing to cut a lot. Reshaping is a must. I’m getting too much of a triangle affect, flat on top with wide sides.
- I don’t want a lot of layers but after discussing with Erin, I am more open to layers to bring out my curl and have versatility in style.
- Color change. Two colors ago, I had great low lights put in but I am actually ready to go darker as long as I have bright highlights around my face. Erin recommended going darker also. For two reasons: 1) the season, 2) after seeing my picture she felt darker was better
- Bangs or layers around my face are a must. They soften my face and detract from the ugly wrinkle between my eyes.
Erin came up with two cut options:
Rachel Stevens
The first is on Rachel Stevens. It will be a minor, but needed, change for my hair as I continue to grow it longer. I think it would mostly be adding some shorter layers around my face as the side view looks similar to my own. I would also need my hair thinned on the ends so it isn’t so full.
Jessica Alba
The second is on Jessica Alba. This cut would be adding more layers and allow me to play up my curl, wear it straight or flip it up.
As for the hair color, Erin liked both Rachel’s and Jessica’s for me. I am also liking this color on Ashley Simpson (which is also similar to Jennifer Aniston’s and Fergie’s). It’s a warm shade and lighter than the other two. I’d want blond highlights near my face.
Ashley Simpson
Jennifer Aniston
Fergie
Won’t you please give your opinion? Vote on the cut and color. If you leave a comment regarding your choice, I’ll enter you into a drawing for a 1.06 oz tube of Clarins Moisture-Rich Body Lotion. A perfect size for keeping in your purse to help with dry winter skin! Contest closes on Friday, December 12 at midnight.
I’ll reserve sharing my opinion until voting is over. BTW, my stylist has been invited to vote and leave a comment. Her opinion matters too! My husband has been asked to vote as well…his opinion really matters (even though he always says I’ll look beautiful no matter what…so sweet!).
My hair appointment is on Saturday morning. Start Voting!

I voted on Rachel Stevens for both the cut and color. I think it would be easier for you to grow it out and the color is just the right mix of low and highlights.

Jessica/Jennifer combo all the way girl

I voted Rachel Stevens for both also. I think it would be just enough change to make it interesting.

These are some great choices! I love the Rachel Stevens look for you – it’s similar to what you already have and looks easy, yet chic. With your angular face shape (you have a V-triangle, from what I can tell), you want more fullness toward the ends of your hair (around chin) to balance out a forehead that’s wider than cheeks. Your coloring appears to be cooler, so opting for a hair color that is cool (as opposed to warm) will be the most flattering to your skintone. I love the idea of going a bit darker, with some highlights around your face. I think that will give you a great new look for the holidays. You’re gonna look fabulous!

Ooh, I’m going to have to go with Rachel Stevens.

I totally agree with One Chic Mama! After experiencing such a bad haircut, you may need to go easy to build confidence again. I have had my share!! I also LOVE the color weave that Rachel has! SO beautiful! You won’t have to worry so much about root growth showing if one of the colors is close to your natural color.
I think you are gorgeous! You remind me of Uma Thurman! You will look great no matter what you do!

I like the Rachel cut with Jennifer Aniston color. I think that cut will look cute and spunky on you giving you the fun you need after suffering a bad cut and now the dreaded triangle grow out! The colors are warm and great for winter and then an easy transition to highlighting for summer. Just when those layers are growing out nicely!

I think you would look good with your hair close to what you have now, but not quite so layered. Just a little thicker than now. You seem like it would look best curled under, rather than outward, so that it comes in toward your neck and surrounds your face. Definately short, rather than long like Fergie’s, or Jennifer’s.
As for color, I can really see you in a slightly darker color (light brown) with alot of highlights, graduating to lighter around your face.
Thanks for letting us weigh in on this! It will be interesting to see how it turns out!!!

Of all the pics you posted of your hair through the years, you look the best in the darker one. I think you look great with darker hair. Blonde is boring (spoken as a true brunette).

I LOVE the Rachel cut and think it would look great on you!! I especially like how it is a medium colour which will help hide re-growth but with those cute cool blonde highlights giving it an edgey, younger look. I think the longer styles may drag your face down and the wavy ones would probably make you look older. Hey, you know what? You are a beautiful girl anyway and I’m sure you will look fabulous in your high heels with whichever style you choose
