You love the latest trends. You love fashion. You don’t always know how to combine the latest looks with your professional career and lifestyle. How does a girl wear neon yellow to the office or to meet a client? How does a mom wear neon pink without looking like her 9 year old daughter?
One piece at a time.
It’s that simple. No matter what your professional or personal wardrobe is like, you can incorporate trends like neon and make the correct kind of statement- one that says “I am confident. I know how to wear a trend with class.”
Find one favorite piece and combine it with neutrals like a classic black blazer, denim or a soft gray suit. The look shown above features a neon blazer with neutral pieces but each one is fabulous and fun in it’s own way! The contrast of conservative and trendy make for a great mix! You can be proud that you pulled off a hot trend in a stylish way!
If you are still unsure, start with accessories like a handbag, bracelets or my favorite, shoes.
Real Life Example:
I recently helped an entrepreneur, via email, put together a look for a business event. She wrote, “I want something that says that I’m a professional, but yet also says that I’m fun, relaxed and approachable…while being comfortable. I like color.”
I suggested a knee length a-line skirt in a fun color, a fitted long tank or tee a wide belt over the tank at hips (not waist). I recommended she bring a cardigan as the air conditioning may be cold in the meeting room. Finish the look with heels and a gorgeous long necklace… Something that is unique and funky rather than “pretty”.
She shopped locally and supporting the retailers in her community. She picked up a black skirt (the morning of, she switched to black pants due to cool weather and lack of shaving time!), green tee, a black belt and fun necklace. Her shoes completed the outfit with a great edgy design in bold neon colors. She totally pulled off the look of being a creative professional!
Business or pleasure, you can always find ways to incorporate the latest trends that you love:
- Start with a single piece and mix with neutrals
- Use accessories embracing the trend if clothing from that trend intimidates you
- Your look should ALWAYS incorporate your personality. If a trend doesn’t feel right to you, skip it… you don’t have to wear every trend that hits the real world.
- Dare to work trends into your professional wardrobe, even if you work a corporate job.
