Ah, fall! The leaves are changing, there’s a nip in the air, and an extra pep in my step as I slip into my new Derek Lam ankle booties and toss on my coziest, cashmere scarf. My girlfriends and I love to accessorize and layer our favorite fall and winter trends, but we also realize that looking your best this season means a little bit of extra TLC in the skincare department, both face and body.
Face
Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. If your skin tends to be dry, skip the toner and moisturize in the a.m. and p.m. Don’t over-cleanse! Exfoliate once or twice a week, and keep the scrubbing to a minimum. Scrubbing causes skin to react by producing more oil, which means more breakouts. Use a good moisturizer. If skin still feels dry on your face after switching to a gentle cleanser try using a moisturizer that is one notch richer than the one you use in the summer. Don’t forget about SPF either!

Body
When body lotion alone won’t cut it, try a little DIY. An ultra-moisturizing, homemade body scrub will leave your skin velvety soft. Mix 3 tablespoons of olive oil with 2 tablespoons coarse sea salt. In the shower or bath, scoop a handful of the olive oil scrub mixture onto your hands or on a body puff. Using a circular motion, scrub into your skin paying close attention to the extra dry parts of the body (hands, feet, elbows and knees).
It’s important to follow a good skincare routine, but don’t leave out the most important part of it: hydration! Be sure to drink plenty of H2O! Your skin is an organ, and it needs nourishment from the inside before anything can happen on the surface. I keep water in sight at all times — a bottle in my purse and at my desk. I also take daily, antioxidant-rich supplements to hydrate my skin from the inside out. OPC-3 Beauty Blend is packed with skin-loving, free-radical fighting goodies like bilberry, grape seed, red wine, pine bark extracts and citrus extract. I take it as part of my daily beauty routine to maintain dewy, youthful skin. Follow these tips to extend your gorgeous, summer glow way on into the New Year!
