We’ve all been there…the moment of truth when you have to decide, “should I cut my hair or let it grow?” When you are growing out a very short style it can be almost painful to think about the process! Kim shares with us her plea for help in making the decision. Should she invest in extensions? Should she keep it short? If she grows it out then how does she do it and still look polished? This is a concern many women face when growing hair out. We have the answer to help you, and Kim, grow your hair out while keeping it looking fresh and fabulous.
Kim says:
In June I got Ginnifer Goodwin‘s (above) EXACT pixie (OMG seriously, my stylist NAILED IT)!
I am in the process of “do I grow it out or do I cut it again” because the pixie was lovely, but now, after about 8 months of short hair, I’m tired. Thing is, I am 100% clueless about how to style MY head for growing out. Really badly clueless. Extensions aren’t *really* an option, esp. with a growing out pixie but if you have tips for maybe the Jessica Simpson clip-in type, I’d be willing to listen.
In her typical enthusiastic manner, Jordana Lorraine, Stylist, Colorist, Brazilian Blowout Specialist, agreed to share with us her best tips for growing short hair out:
Jordana Lorraine says:
Good for you for taking the plunge for such an adorable short cut! As fabulous as it may have been, growing out a short cut takes patience and commitment. As we’ve all seen on adorable babies, if short hair is left to grow on its own, you’re headed straight for mulletville. While toddlers can pull it off, it’s a little tougher for those of us in the double-digits.
The best thing to do is to have the sides and back trimmed every 8-10 weeks, re-proportioning them as the top get longer. Once it does, you can grow it into a graduated bob look, then either begin layering it as the length grows out or grow the graduation out into a bob and then a longer shape with a heavy outline.
Remember that hair grows an average of 1/2″ per month…that’s where the patience comes in. Supplements such as Biotin and Folate (Folic Acid) are good for stimulating hair growth, and I have a friend who swears by BioSil.
Here is a progression of short to long hair to help you. Keep in mind, as your top layers get longer, you’ll need to bring the length in the back up. Each style is beautiful and fun in it’s own way. Try to embrace each stage of the grow out!
