It’s Time to Chop Off That Classic College Hairstyle

I received a hair makeover request from a gorgeous mom of one.  I’ll admit when I saw her picture, I thought she was crazy for wanting a makeover, let alone a major change!  I think her hair looks thick and beautiful but after reading her email, I can understand her wanting a change!

Shellee says:
I just ran across your blog and love it! Thanks for all of the good info. I am a 32-year-old mom to my sweet one-year-old daughter. I’ve had this same long hairstyle since college and feel like it’s time for a change – both in style and color. I’m looking for something that’s more stylish and fresh but it needs to be easy to style and maintain. I don’t really like having hair in my face and tend to pin back bangs or pull hair into a pony tail most days. My hair is naturally straight and doesn’t hold curl very well.

Right now I’m leaning toward an angled bob with some side swept bangs but I’m really open to just about anything. I’ve attached a few pictures that I’ve found online so far. Part of me is just a little hesitant to lose the length but the other part of me wants a completely new look. So excited to hear your suggestions!

Shellee included pictures of styles she liked with her email.  Heidi Klum and Nicole Richie were among those she liked:

I turned to the expert advice of the Neil and Amanda, co-owners of the Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills, who are an important part of the Beauty Task Force on A Mom in Red High Heels. They offer their recommendations to Shellee.

Neil says:
Yes, having the same hair style and color for a long time can only push you more to want a huge change! You should go for a Victoria Beckham long bob, maybe keeping it a bit longer than hers so you can pull it back still. Side swept bangs will look great with your face shape too, and when you’re not in the mood, just get a pretty hair pin and pin them to the side for a chic retro look.

Amanda says:
To keep it simple and easy but also mixing it up a bit, get a few face framing highlights just 1 or 2 shades lighter than your current color. Also, get some tips on the ends with that same shade that they do on your face frame. This simple color change will brighten you up a whole bunch, but will be relatively simple to maintain, and easy to grow out.

Can this mom of one pull off Victoria Beckham’s sassy long bob?  I bet she can!  Please keep us posted on your new look Shellee!  Good Luck!

  1. I think she will look fab with Victoria’s messy bob. She won’t even have to have a drastic color change :)
