The Power of Red High Heels

    By Tammy | April 8, 2008

Don’t ever tell me that high heels don’t make you look and feel sexier! I’ll argue against that until the day I die. High Heels are magical. They are empowering. They are sexy. Period.

Last Friday night my husband and I went on a date. It was exciting to have this time with him as we have been super busy trying to buy, sell and relocate. For months now, it’s been all about “the house”. While we try to keep the romance alive with a date now and then, we hadn’t really done anything fabulous for ourselves in quite a while. So when my hubby tells me we are going to a movie premier at Downtown Disney, I’m excited! This was going to be an adventure since Downtown Disney is about an hour away from us and the evening would be an event, not just a date. Little did I know how big an event it would be!

The only criteria my husband had for me was to wear “tight jeans and red high heels”. No problem. I probably would have anyway! He likes me in that combo and it makes me happy to please him. Plus, like I’ve said, I love red high heels!

I was rushed out the door, as I am chronically late, so I had makeup bag in tow. The drive down went quickly since I was busy prepping for the date and eating my salad from El Pollo Loco (no time to eat once we get there…). I look up at one point and notice my husband took the wrong freeway. No big deal. We can reach our destination via surface streets (remember, I live in Southern California- freeways all over the place). Then we hit surface street traffic. Uh-oh. Are we going to be late? My husband hands me the page he downloaded from the computer with our will-call confirmation. He tells me to check it for a time.

I look at it. I’m confused. Bon Jovi? WHAT?!?!?! We aren’t going to any lame movie premier…We are going to a Bon Jovi concert! (Just kidding about the “lame” but compared to the concert, it is!) Whoo HOO is all I can say. You have to understand, I have been a fan since the beginning of time. Ok, since 9th grade at least! I am SO excited. No wonder the tight jeans and red high heels. How hot is that for a rock concert?!

Due to the fact that my hubby bought the tickets the previous day, our seats were the highest point in the venue. Very high. Very steep stairs to walk in my red high heels! Given my excitement of just being able to attend the concert, I didn’t even care where we sat! I was giddy!

Daughtry opened and he rocked! When Bon Jovi came on I rose to my feet and never sat down. I didn’t even care that if I lost my balance (very high heels and very steep seats, remember?) while dancing. I had to dance and sing at the top of my lungs. There is just something about a rock concert that feeds my soul! My husband and I LOVE to go to concerts!

Jon Bon Jovi is such a hottie (yes, my husband knows I think so)- though I do think he should go back to the blonde. His hair was a little dark for my taste. His voice and music however was SO my taste :) But that is neither here nor there…back to the story…

About 4 songs into the 2.5 hour concert, the usher hiked up to us, handed us two tickets and left without saying anything. UPGRADE! YES! We were given two tickets just above floor level in front of the stage. SWEET! The power of red high heels, see what I’m saying? He could have given those tickets to anyone. ANYONE! He didn’t. He gave them to us! (Now, it’s entirely possible he gave them to us because we were nice to him, conversed with him rather than blowing past him, thanked him for his helping in locating our mountain high seats, and he saw how genuinely excited we were to be there BUT that isn’t quite as exciting of a reason is it??).

We enjoyed the rest of the concert in awesome seats! We are grateful to a generous man who appreciated red high heels! It was a wonderful memory that I’ll think of every time I slip on those heels! If you don’t have a pair yet, it’s time. There is power to be had in a beautiful pair of red high heels!

*I WISH I had gotten a picture of us that night! Like I said, I was rushed out the door, not ready. The shoes worn by me are on the About page. My jeans were Seven7 bootcut in dark denim, long length (need LONG jeans for high heels!) and I wore a black tank with a short black cardigan. I also wore my new Betsey Johnson necklace.*

Thanks for sharing your exciting story! I am so happy you had a great time! I have been going to Bon Jovi concerts since 1984 and still loving their music. My husband has surprised me with Bon Jovi tickets for Tampa this weekend. I am going to wear my black sky high heels and a cute black and white halter dress. Bon Jovi is timeless……………
