The Beauty of Confidence

“Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.” ~ Sophia Loren

We’ve talked many times about how to look your best, why to look your best, which clothes can help you look your best and what products make it easy for you to look your best. Why? All for the sake of you feeling confident. When you can feel your best you are not distracted by your clothing, your hair or your makeup. You are confident in how you look so that you can get on with your day and your more important tasks such as family.

From her book The Little Black Book of Style, Nina Garcia, mother of 1, (best known for being a fashion judge on Bravo’s hit show Project Runway) shares from the very first page the importance of confidence.

“When a beautiful woman walks into a room, I may glance up for a moment, but I soon return to my entree or my conversation or the dessert menu. Let’s be honest: beauty is not all that interesting (and certainly not more interesting than the dessert menu). But when a confident woman walks into a room, it is entrancing. I’ll watch as she moves with poise and self-possession. She is not usually the one in the plain black dress. She is the one in the interesting shirt and the vintage skirt, and I immediately want to know where she got them. And she may not be the most stunningly gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen, but she has a way about her that can make her one of the most intriguing. Confidence is captivating, it is powerful, and it does not fade-and that is endlessly more interesting than beauty.

The first and most important step to developing style is to project this kind of confidence. The kind of confidence that tells others that you respect yourself, love yourself, and dress up for yourself and nobody else. You are your own muse. Style comes from knowing who you are and who you want to be in the world; it does not come from wanting to be somebody else, or wanting to be thinner, shorter, taller, prettier.”

Confidence. If you don’t have it, learn it (A Mom in Red High Heels will help!). Fake it until you actually end up believing it. No one is going to do it for you- it all comes from within! As Nina says, “Once you’ve got confidence, the rest is gravy!”
