Super Star Hair the Gwyneth Paltrow Way

Our most recent hair makeover inquiry comes from Jenn. She is completely adorable, in my opinion, but says she wants to be a Super Star…or at least look like one. Who better to emulate than gorgeous celebrity mom, Gwyneth Paltrow? Keep reading to find out Jenn’s hair confession!

Jenn’s Confession: Do you love the fake pony-tail??? Was traveling in Italy—and WHO wants to bother doing their hair in Italy??? Well, maybe most everybody but me.

Jenn says:
I am a mom with 4 kids (ages 6 mos to 8 1/2 yrs) & am looking to de-frumpify. Do you ever sometimes walk by a mirror and think “Ack! What happened to me???!”? Probably not… after all, you are the mom in red high heels. (note to Jenn, YES I do…I am a woman too! lol)

Anyway…would love a new do—something that screams “I’m girly, I’m sexy, I’m cute, I’m fun”, but that is a CINCH to fix up because: A) I don’t have time to pee, let alone do my hair, and B) I’m pretty much a hair dweeb—if the cut requires some level of skill to style I’m in trouble. And let’s face it—one glance at me says anything but “I’m girly, sexy, cute, and fun”. From the unkempt hair hiding under my red bandanna, down to the saggy crop pants and red Keen hikers on my feet—I’m a “what not to wear” candidate ;) . BUT—I think a good haircut would get me going in the right direction.

I’m pretty open to anything (short, long, bright colors, etc…)—keeping in mind that it has to be easy & quick (emphasis on quick). Did I mention that quick is important? I’d also love something that doesn’t cost a lot to maintain (cuts, coloring, etc…), but maybe that’s not realistic? Definitely a secondary concern.

Also, I have a very pear shaped figure—so it seems I need something on top to balance my heavier bottom half. Not big hair or anything, but I don’t want to look like a little-bitty-pin-head on a big, fat body. My real color is a dishwater blonde, getting darker as I age, I think—but don’t really know because I color & have for years. I have a lot of very fine textured hair.

OOOOOkaaaay. Enough from me already. Thank you in advance for making me into a superstar. Maybe if you get to be the “mom in red high heels”, I can be the “mom with great hair”?

To keep it relatively simple while staying hip, go for a bob like Gwyneth Paltrows!

Amanda says:

Highlights similar to hers as well (maybe just not as solid a base color, so you can have more time in between services) . The highlights will brighten you up, and be somewhat easy to maintain- and if they grow out it will give you that rooty-chic look! Her cut is also simple enough so that you can just let your hair air dry if you want, or if you ever get 10 minutes, take a round brush and blow dry it for a sleek straight look! Best of luck!

  1. I agree that Gwyneth’s style and a similar color would be a great look for Jenn, who as already gorgeous! But I have to disagree on the fake hair part…I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Gwyneth with extensions.

  2. Tammy says:

Oh my gosh, you are RIGHT! haha, why did I not associate extensions with FAKE HAIR??!

  3. I assume that’s what they both were referring to. I think Jenn was using a clip-on ponytail to make her hair thick and bouncy. It works , but the synthetic hair can easily get pretty nasty, which a inferred was Amanda’s point. However, investing in a set of clip-in real-hair extensions can give you lots of options for special occasions. Most people–even hairdressers–didn’t know when I was wearing them!

Jenn and Amanda, apologies if I misunderstood.

  4. Tammy says:

No, that was me referring to the “Fake hair”! I added “Editor’s Note” to eliminate confusion on who said what:) Quality clip-ins are a great idea. I just hate idea of trying to match to my hair or having to spend $ to dye them. Not that I need more thickness…haha but length would be nice!

  5. Ohh, I think she’d look great.

christian louboutinis my favourite, thanks.Your article is wonderful!Hold it.

  7. Hahaha, oops, got it! Clip-in extensions are definitely fun and low-maintenance, but real hair is the way to go. And when you have a stylist do it for you, we color-match them, put them in, cut them to blend with your own layers and style. It ends up looking much more natural than DIY, even with real hair. However, if you have thick hair, you have to add a lot to make it blend, so it ends up being pretty heavy.
