Summer Hair TLC

Summertime is hard on hair. Not only are you outside more often and exposed to the elements of wind, sun, humidity or dry heat, you are also exposing your hair to chlorine. These conditions can leave your hair dry and brittle or out-of-control frizzy! Hair can also become dull with faded color.
It’s time to give your hair a little TLC!
I asked two hair experts to share their tips for Summer Hair TLC and how to destress our tresses. They included some great product recommendations to help you give your hair some much needed love!
Amanda George of Neil George Salon says:
For keeping your hair at its best in summer, live by these tips:
- Always rinse your hair after the pool
- Use a color protection product when going in the sun (Rene Furterer has sun protection products that are amazing)
- Shampoo directly after swimming in either ocean or pool
- If your blond gets dull or green from swimming, you can buy Malibu 2000 treatments from the beauty supply, which help with these problems wonderfully.
- After shampooing post sun or pool, use the Neil George Intense Repair Mask to revive and bring your hair back to life, and apply the Neil George Indian Gooseberry treatment oil to damp hair for added strength and re-hydration.
- If your color fades in the summer sun, you can always ask your colorist for a gloss, to revamp your color in between colorings.
Jordana Lorraine from Dino-Clark salon adds these tips:
- Always use a sulfate-free shampoo to protect your color. OSMO Essence has a whole line specifically made for sun protection, called Color Mission:
- Whenever possible, wet your hair with tap water before getting in the pool or ocean; your hair is like a sponge, so once it’s saturated with tap water it won’t absorb as much of the color-fading chlorine and salt. Clip it up if you can, and wash + condition it ASAP afterward
- Protect your hair like you do your skin! Osmo Essence Colour Mission UV-Maxx leave-in conditioner is great for detangling and protecting. But if you’re going to be in the sun for an extended period of time…a hat is best for skin and face!
Be your hair’s hero and follow these tips so your hair can regain it’s beautiful luster in time for Fall!

Great tips! I never forget to shampoo right after I take a dip in the pool. A hat works for protecting me from the pesky sun.

The first thing that comes to mind when it comes to masks you can do yourself is an avocado mask. It’s extremely nourishing and that’s exactly what the hair needs after a summer of fun.
