Suit Your Own Style

We’ve talked about so many trends this spring that it makes my head spin! There is the bold color trend, urban safari, romantic neutrals, grey is also hot especially paired with various shades of yellow, floral, block colors, statement necklaces, bangles and so much more! How is a woman suppose to shop this season and keep up with all the trends?!Stylish Woman

You’re not! Stop trying to hit trend and go with what works with your lifestyle and your current wardrobe. My desire on A Mom in Red High Heels is to introduce you to what’s hot and hopefully bring you to some great websites to shop but that doesn’t mean you shop for it all! Make good decisions about what is really you and invest your money and time into what really flatters your days!

While discussing “Suit Your Own Style” in her new book “That Extra Half an Inch“, Victoria Beckham recommends this:

“The moment you stand in front of the mirror and feel those little questions creeping in- Is this really me? Could I be a walking inspiration for an Ugly Sister (referring to Cinderella’s sisters) ?- then it’s time to think again. I’m not saying you should never take risks, far from it, because fashion is one of the few areas of your life where you don’t have to conform to other people’s ideas about who you are. It’s where you can truly show your individuality. The trick is to find the balance, to wear what works for your body shape whilst at the same time keeping track of what’s happening in the fashion world, to ensure you don’t get stuck in a rut. Have you ever noticed how some older women can look as if they’re in a time warp? It’s what I call the security-blanket style of dressing. Just because something suited you once doesn’t mean you have to go on wearing it forever. In the way that fashion moves on, so should you.”

Ask yourself if you are following too many trends or none at all. Do you have a closet full of clothes that make you feel uncomfortable, as if you are trying too hard? Fashion should be fun and feel effortless. Your mind should be on your day, not on the outfit you are wearing. This week think about your fashion decisions and digest what your next purchase should be. Wear what you love and looks good on you for yourself and your husband (it’s always nice to appeal to his desires!). Don’t wear what you think you should be wearing just because it’s a trend. Seek your own style and go with it!
