The One-Day Spa and Detox Program
Start the New Year right by treating yourself to a luxurious day of pampering in the comfort of your home! Use this time to eliminated the toxins caused by stress, sugar and alcohol from the holiday season! A one-day home spa and detox program will rejuvenate your mind, body and soul and is easy on the budget that you are keeping in 2010!
Prepare Your Day
Pick a day that you’ll be home alone for the majority of the time. Create a peaceful, calming space by removing distractions- turn off your phone, computer, TV and bright lights. Get the dishes done ahead of time, hide the laundry behind closed doors and empty the smelly trash. Play soothing music, light fragrant candles and choose dim lighting.
Dress in a cozy bathrobe and wear slippers to keep your feet warm. Have plenty of clean towels on hand, a plastic shower cap and a warm blanket (electric if you have one!).
Prepare for Detox

Start your morning with a cup of hot water and fresh squeezed lemon juice. The lemon helps the liver and gallbladder purge stored toxins. Throughout the day, drink herbal tea, purified water and freshly prepared fruit or vegetable juice. For dinner, you may have vegetable broth. Can you survive this? Yes, of course! Your day is suppose to be a calm, relaxed one without a lot of activity so you won’t be needing a lot of calories to sustain you. Do it for your body’s health!
The Good Stuff- Your Treatments
- Start the morning with a light walk. Take in as much oxygen as you can, it will give your skin a healthy glow!
- Brush your skin using a firm, natural-bristle brush. Spend five minutes brushing your skin from head to toe. Always brush toward your heart. Skin-brushing will help increase circulation, remove dead skin cells and clear pores of toxins.
- Take an exfoliating shower. Use a salt or sugar scrub, paying extra attention to elbows, knees and feet. After rinsing well, finish off with an invigorating cold rinse. Towel off and head to your spa area.
- Spend 10- 15 minutes meditating in total quiet. Keep you mind free of any stimulating thoughts. Spend the next hour sipping tea, listening to music, doodling or reading a mind-body-spirit book to relax your mind and body. Another good way to use this time is to make a list of self-esteem boosting thoughts- say only positive things about yourself!
- After your time reconnecting with yourself, it’s time for some more detoxing!
Detox Your Skin, Deep Condition Your Hair
- Put some luster back in your stressed-out hair! Apply an olive oil or mayonnaise hair mask. Cover with a plastic wrap and wrap in a warm head towel.
- Give yourself a deep-cleaning mud mask on your face and body (I love Borghese’s Fango Active Mud Mask)! For best results, wrap yourself in plastic kitchen wrap after you apply the mask. Lie down and cover yourself in warm towels or your electric blanket. Keep your body as warm as possible. Cover your eyes with cucumber slices or cotton-wool pads soaked in milk.
- During the 20 minutes that you relax, breathe deep and allow your muscles to relax.
- Shower off to remove the masks, then hop into a warm bath complete with aromatherapy oils. Soak for 15-20 minutes, enjoying the warmth of the water. Don’t rush this final step! After your bath, smooth on your favorite body lotion.
Keep it Calm
The rest of your day should be calm, quiet and free of stimulus like the kids, TV or computer. Get your mom to watch the kids overnight or swap with a girlfriend so she can have her spa day too! Go to bed early. Put a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow for an extra relaxing night of sleep.
Treat your one-day spa and detox day as the first day of a new, healthier lifestyle. Repeat the process at least twice a year to keep your mind, body and soul rejuvenated!
Happy New Year!
