Show Up Looking Great This Thanksgiving

say no to sweats!

I hold a bit of frustration for people who show up for Thanksgiving dinner wearing sweats or jeans.  Has society gone so casual that we can’t even dress up a few times a year in something more than our most casual clothes?  I understand that it’s “a day off from work” and that it’s probably filled with football games and of course, cooking.  I still think that with a little thought, you can make it work and come up with an alternative to the sweats and jeans.

I asked the swanky and fabulous beauty bloggers from the Daily Makeover Beauty Bloggerati to chime in and share what they will be wearing or to share what they have worn on past Thanksgivings.  Their outfits are inspiring yet comfortable and functional.

All About the Pretty: Since I’m the top chef in charge of Turkey Day, I’m starting the day with a slow restorative yoga class so I’m wearing clothes that I do not change out of for the transition. I must mentally prepare for that much family in one room. The great thing about Lululemon’s clothing is THEY DON’T EVER SMELL.  I’m seriously addicted to Luluelemon’s Wunder Under Pants and Tri Y Tank which I wear to yoga class.

I will pair these with TranquiliT’s All in One Wrap Dress.

I will be working hard over a hot stove most of the day, but I need to not have to worry about changing clothes. I add flat boots, chandelier earrings, and little makeup and I’m good.

The Jet Set Girls: I love the dress I wore last Thanksgiving because it’s dark and has no waist band–but exactly what you say not jeans or sweats.

Beauty Blogging Junkie: I plan to rock (as I do most days, I have 3 pairs!) American Apparel Winter Leggings with a sweater dress. The leggings are WARM, slimming and super opaque. I need to stock up in every color.

Makeover Momma: Last year I wore jeans that were super stretchy and comfy (SJP Bitten line from Steve & Barry, a size too big), the poncho covered all stomach area (T.J. Maxx), and the ballet flats were so cozy (ok, they’re actually slippers from Target…I wear them all the time and no one knows!) I wore this outfit with knee-high, black suede boots for most of the day, and switched to flats that night…  (see her outfit here)

Talking Makeup: It’s very hard to get me out my skinny Guess jeans and leather pants…LOL. umm.. Even on Thanksgiving!  Maybe since Tammy is very inspiring, I might graduate into my Forever 21 super comfy mini charcoal grey skirt, and my PH8 black top with Jewel motive and a matching long cardigan to go on top. No stockings.  I live in Arizona it’s 80s here almost everyday.  Yes!

And I forgot to mention: I don’t or never cook! I eat. My hubby does ALL the cooking all the time. I’m lucky.

Then after thinking it through, Marta said this…

…I might switch the cardigan with my new black H&M boyfriend blazer.  Shoes: Steve Madden.

Every single outfit is comfortable with style.  Functional with sass.  If you do jeans, do it like Talking Makeup and Makeover Momma- make them chic!

Me?  I’ve not decided.  It’s suppose to be warm but windy in So Cal.  I will be helping in the kitchen but not in charge.  My first thought is my mini-check dress with my black boots.  The heel is small, the dress is cotton, both are easy to move in. Topped off with one of my favorite Twisted-Silver pieces, the Rocker Earth necklace, my outfit will be the perfect collection of pieces to help me look and feel fabulous!  Plus, I’ll have plenty of waistline room, making after dinner equally as comfortable!

Tell me, what will you wear? Will you step up your style quotient and leave the sweats (YES, Juicy Couture track suits ARE sweats!) in the closet?

    2. Tammy says:

Yes, someone in my hubby’s family did for years until he finally got a clue! (maybe it was the dirty looks I’d give him…haha?!)

    3. Tina says:

I’ll be wearing a jade tunic dress (nice v neck with an empire waist = stylish and room for pie!!), lace patterned tights and tall brown boots. My Twisted Silver one wrist will be Tapestry, Athena and XO Classic bracelets stacked. On my neck, the Tre necklace, and this special one-of-a-kind piece that designer Deb Mitchell made just for me last year: mid length twirled together copper chains with a big statement tassel (perk-o-nomics at its best!!) :)

    4. Tammy says:

Nice! Tina, send me a picture of your outfit! I’d love to feature it as a holiday outfit option for the coming month :) I’m jealous… a one-of-a-kind piece from Deb? You lucky woman!!!

    5. Stephanie says:

No sweats, but I actually think jeans are perfectly acceptable for Thanksgiving and other holidays. Paired with a fabulous top or jacket, a beautiful necklace, and great shoes…even jeans can look dressy!
