The Founding of Juicy Couture
In 1994, Juicy Couture co-founders/designers and residents of Pacoima, California, Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor (wife of Duran Duran’s John Taylor) started selling maternity pants, creating their own fashion label, Travis Jeans.
Skaist-Levy and Nash-Taylor changed the name to Juicy Couture in 1996 as they shifted their focus to high-end girly apparel, more affordable to the general public than other major labels.
Skaist-Levy and Nash-Taylor spread brand awareness by sending completed designs to celebrities, such as Madonna, who is credited with turning the velour tracksuit into a trend. Madonna’s tracksuit had “Madge” embroidered on it, and once Madonna was spotted wearing it in 2001, Juicy Couture quickly became a known brand.
In 2003, Skaist-Levy and Nash-Taylor sold the company to Liz Claiborne Inc.
Juicy Couture Today
Today, Juicy Couture has its hands in everything it seems — from perfume to socks to toiletries and even dog accessories.
Recently, Juicy Couture has undergone creative leadership changes instigated by Liz Claiborne Inc. CEO, William L. McComb. Juicy’s co-founder-designers are switching to non-operating creative consulting roles at the company for the final year of their contract. Skaist-Levy and Nash-Taylor are already looking into starting up another lifestyle collection once the non-compete clause of their contract ends.
So who will reinvigorate Juicy Couture? Erin Fetherston has been tapped as guest designer and creative consultant, according to WWD. Beginning May 1, Fetherston will design the Juicy Couture line’s summer-fall 2011 and holiday 2011 collections. There are also plans for Fetherston to roll out a few exclusive limited edition pieces for holiday 2010.

I agree that I’m way more into their casual clothing, and not so much the velour suits. Juicy Couture has quality clothing, that is never boring, and can be worn for several types of outings. I’d get the Cropped Ruffle Cardigan or the Ruffle Tank.
I love Juicy Couture because if you wear their beautiful clothes, you know no one else will be wearing anything quite like you. They have a vibe of the perfect amounts of cuteness and uniqueness!

I love the story of how Juicy Couture began– two friends were unable to find the “perfect tee shirt,” so they made it themselves. To me, Pamela and Gela are celebrities just like the stars they’ve dressed over the years. And when I need a perfect tee shirt, I know what line to go to first!
