Frustrated with the short hairstyle her stylist talked her into, Karin seeks advice on what style is right for her. She feels boyish with her current look but wants to keep her style low maintenance for her active lifestyle.
Karin Says:
Unfortunately I am not sure what hairstyle really suits me. I used to have really long hair but 3 years ago it just did not feel right anymore and I went shorter for a classic bob like the picture of Allison Janney. 3 weeks ago my stylist convinced me to even go shorter and you can see on picture I attached what I looked right now. Most of the days I am OK with the cut but occasionally I do not like it at all. It does feel a bit too boyish to me sometimes and I really need to use styling products and make-up to look really cool.
What would you suggest? What is suitable for my face shape, hair quality and body type?
I have fine (naturally dark blonde) highlighted hair and quite a few stubborn cowlicks. My back is a tiny bit flat so it is really hard to create a volume. I am 40 years old, 5,5’ tall, sporty and rather petite. Since I am a very active person I wish for a hairstyle that is uncomplicated and low maintenance.
I’d be so happy if you could give me your professional advice.
Sincerely,
Karin
The expert stylists at the Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills share their suggestions:
As far as a cut, it looks like it’s done well, but you need to LOVE your cut, not just be “OK” with it. I would suggest a short messy bob for you- it will keep your look fresh and give you that extra pizazz it seems like you’re missing now. With a bob, you can also have versatility- when you’re wanting sleek and smooth, style it straight. When you want it a little more bohemian and beachy, let it air dry and wrap your tendrils with a curling iron loosely and voila!, you’ll be ready to go. Think about Victoria Beckham’s new style/cut- that’s right up your alley. The grow out isn’t always easy, but it will be worth it!
As far as your color, you should brighten it up! You could use a more bold statement to light up your face and show off your soon to be new hairstyle!
A Mom in Red High Heels says:
Karin, check out Victoria’s style on this image, it’s a great style, in-between your length and what she has now. It will be your next phase in the grow-out. It’s sexy and feminine, and will be a great transition cut on you while you grow out to the messy bob if that is what you choose to do! Keeping hair touchable, shiny and near your face will help you feel less boyish with short hair! Keep your hair healthy and strong so it can grow quicker due to lack of breakage! I have always been partial to this particular Vicky B haircut. She will look great since they have similar face shapes
boyish or not, with a short hair a woman of any age looks younger. I’m sure no one is against that;)
