Refresh Your Locks for New Years Eve!

healthy hair treatments

Is this chilly winter weather drying your hair out?! No time to run to the salon before New Years Eve? Well guess what…you have a secret weapon to heal dry hair in your kitchen cupboard! Olive oil and mayonnaise aren’t just good for cooking!  They’re excellent moisturizing treatments for your hair and scalp.

Here are 2 fabulous treatments from stylists Josh Rosebrook and Robear Landeros at LA-based salon The Parlour on 3rd.

Olive Oil Moisturizing Treatment from The Parlour on 3rd Master Stylist Josh Rosebrook:

1. Take 1/4 cup olive oil and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

2. Part your hair into four sections and apply the warm olive oil to your scalp, section by section. Make sure to work the olive oil from the scalp to the ends of your hair.

3. Put a plastic cap on your hair and let the olive oil work its magic for 30 minutes.

4. Remove the cap. Shampoo, condition, and style your hair as usual.

Healthy Hair Mask from The Parlour on 3rd Stylist Robear Landeros:

The easiest, cheapest, and most effective hair mask secret known to stylists is mayonnaise. Who would have thought? Mayo is composed of egg yolk, lemon juice and vinegar, which can strengthen and moisturize your hair. Avoid commercial brands. Stick with organic for best results. Place a plastic bag over your hair after you apply. Leave it on for 30 minutes. If you don’t mind smelling like a ham sandwich, the end result is worth it!

Editor’s note: Shampoo well after each treatment!  I did the mayo treatment as a teen and used it like a conditioner, didn’t shampoo after and my goodness, let’s just say my hair was a hot MESS!

I’ve actually used this combo for my hair. It is one of the stinkiest things you can do but the most effective. Give it a try for the softest, shiniest hair you’ve ever had.

Shameless plug, I know! But, does’nt this just scream for a “Wrapadoo”? Imagine that gross plastic cap covering your sloppy mayo-evvo locks? Now imagine that cap covered, coddled and cozyily wrapped up, neat & tidy in your “Wrapadoo”? Plus it helps warm it all up for extra conditioning. Happy Hair, Happy Girl! Keep it Glam girls!

I have used this as well and it works. When I was 13 years old, I read about it and slept with the mayo in my hair – thinking it would help make my hair softer if I kept it in overnight. Anyhow it took longer to wash out but definitely hydrated my hair. Rinsing your hair with vingear helps make it more shiny as well.

    Enjoy!

  4. Mayo, huh? I wonder how it will perform in my humid tropical country…
