I’ve been using the Pure Skin Care Black Rice line sold exclusively at CVS for a couple of weeks. I wasn’t initially impressed but have come to like the line. The cleanser is not as creamy as expected, the face cream leaves a matte finish on your skin and I thought the night cream could be creamier. (The night cream is a duo-product pump, dispensing cream from one side and a gently exfoliating serum from the other. I do squirt a tad more of the cream than serum to get the consistency that I like.)
In addition, the packaging is too much for the size of the jars and tubes. I thought it to be a waste of paper. Not smart packaging in an eco-friendly world even though it does look nice.
Despite those initial reactions, the line works. My skin looks healthy, I’ve not had breakouts and I don’t feel dry.
The line claims that:
The Black Rice peptides and line filling micro-pearls guarantee immediate, visible results as well as powerful anti-aging benefits. 88% of users see a continued visible reduction in wrinkles in 4 weeks.* Black Rice peptides actively fight premature aging by improving skin softness, elasticity and tone and stimulating cellular metabolism. Existing wrinkles will fade and the formation of new wrinkles will noticeably slow down and signs of fatigue will disappear. The line filling micro-pearls (natural vegetable factors) give immediate results, as if the lines have been temporarily filled in. (This explains the matte look when applied) When the micro-pearls come into contact with the natural moisture of the skin they replump/rehydrate and plump up the wrinkles on the face. * Based on results from a 4-week consumer test.
I honestly can’t say I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing this radical of results but I would buy the cleaner, exfoliant, eye cream or night cream again should I happen to wander into a CVS but I wouldn’t specifically go there for it.
Retail prices range from $9.99 to $14.99

Sounds like a fairly decent drug store skincare brand. Black Rice peptides eh? I have heard several good things about using rice bran oil in skincare.
Thank you for the honest and well thought out review of this line! Keep up the great work.
i bought the night cream and seriously my skin felt amazing. my skin is usually rough with blotchy redness when i first wake up but when i use the night cream my face is without the red and roughness when i wake up. i will definitely try out the other products.
I have been using the Face Cream, Cleanser and the Night Cream. I think my skin feels and looks so much better, smoother. The night cream is a wonderful consistency and I even use some on the top of hands. I’m very pleased with the line in comparision to other products I have tried.
I purchased the Pure Skin Care Black Rice Eye Cream at my local CVS, for $12.99 plus tax….(small tube .05 oz.)..used it til it was all gone and very disappointed…see no difference what so ever….
I see it’s stated on the box end, it’s made in Italy, Advanced Healthcare Distributors, LLC, Concord NH.
I really would like a refund of my money, but guess I will not get that….just wanted you to know I was very disappointed and disatisfied…
i have been using your product i love it. i feel a difference in my skin in just 2 weeks my pores are much smaller and my skin looks and fells much better i’m very pleased with a product. also the price is very good…..
I bought the day cream thinking that it is another product that claims to have everything..
I am liking the product.. it has spf and matte finish which is really good in summer and i feel my skin is moisturized all the time.
i dont know if it reduces wrinkle or not since I have may be a little laugh line but it surely does give you good skin outcome.
I’ve been using this product for a little bit now – only the night cream. So far so good. One pump doesn’t seem like enough for my face, neck and cleavage so I do two. While maybe I haven’t seen a vast improvement, my skin looks good. I use a variety of products so
Aurelia, I think CVS has a fairly liberal return policy so call if you’re not 100% satisfied.
I have been using cleanser, day cream and night cream for several months, and am very happy with results. I always used Prescriptives and Lancome in the past. I have Roseatia, and your product has caused no problems! I am thrilled with this product and hope you do not diacontinue it.

Absolutely love Pure Skin Care Black Rice line. I have been using it for about six months. My skin feels moisturized all day. Fine lines have deminished. The night cream is great – I have sensitive skins with no problems or burning or redness. I use the day cream and just purchased the scrub. I was not too impressed with the eye cream, although my eyes did not tear after using.
Thanks for sharing your results Renee! I’m so glad the line works so wonderfully for you!
I found your blog while I was searching for the day cream. I used the whole jar and loved it more than any other product I have used. I have lots of allergies and sensitivities and this was truly the best moisturizer I have ever used. I couldn’t remember where I purchased it and that is why I was searching. I will be going to CVS tomorrow to not only purchase more of the day cream, but the whole line! Thank you!~
Heather, I am so glad you liked this product and that the review was helpful! It seems to be a very popular and well liked line of skincare from the comments I’ve read here!
BTW, I love my Lia Sophia Lemon Chiffon ring. Is it a big seller for you?
does it firm and help lift the skin? i just bought the line so i havent used it yet. but didnt see anywhere it said it would firm. i liked the price so thought id try it. def need something to firm.
I do go there(to CVS); just for the black rice eye cream and duo night cream.
I’ve tried sooooo many different skin care lines from every price range. I LUV the Black rice night cream, day cream, cleanser and scrub. The eye cream wasn’t moisturizing enough for me, but the rest of the products work fabulous with my skin! I would pay alot more for these products if necessary. It’s nice that I don’t have to.
Is this Black Rice Product Line – “Gluten-Free” anyone??? Thanks Kindly,
AUDRA ~ xx
I’d like to know if it’s gluten-free too?
Anyone look it up on EWG or Good Guide yet?
Im not happy with the product . I bought it from CVS about a month ago . It doesnt do anything for my skin, I especially do not like the night cream; it goes to quickly . I want a refund for my money on the Pure Skin Care – Black Rice – Face Cream and the Pure Skin Care – Black Rice – Night Cream .
thanks,
Judith Finkel
I just started using the Black Rice eye treatment and night cream two days ago. I’m saying my prayers and keeping my fingers crossed. I’m 56 years old and I’ve wasted money on at least 56 anti-aging products so far that haven’t worked at all. I’ve mainly been seeking out a product that will diminish the lines, wrinkles, and puffiness under my eyes.
If the Black Rice products don’t do the trick, do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks!
Melanie
Melanie,
I tried the Black Rice but my skin was too sensitive for it. I also found the night cream to be very thick and not absorb well into my skin. I’m 40 years old with fairly good skin, but have been developing deep lines under my eyes and lots of puffiness. I have tried so many products that just irritate my skin or do nothing at all. I finally began using Clinque and can’t say enough about the eye creams and the new eye serum. Took about a month to see marked improvement in the fine lines. My skin definitely looks better and brighter too. I use Youth Surge for all over moisture also. A great tip, find a gentle exfoliator for every morning. It makes everything work better for optimal results.
Good luck!
Nancy
I used the scrub and love it. My skin feels so soft an smooth. I went to CVS several times to get another jar and have not been able to get it. I don’t know if it’s just sold out or if they are not going to carry it anymore.
I cannot find the Black Rice line at all any more. I am lost without my scrub!! Does anyone know what happened and if they’re still making the line?
For those having difficulty finding the line, if you live in an area that has Grocery Outlet stores, they are currently stocking it at a fraction of the original price.
Good looking out Chatherine! (I am an avid and loyal Grocery Outlet shopper)
I live in Southern California, and just picked up the Night Cream @ Grocery Outlet for $4.99! I have been looking up reviews since I got home and am glad I found this site with so many honest comments. I think I’ll try it out after all and keep my fingers crossed that it’s a match with my sensitive skin.
Thanks for all of your comments/reviews! =)
I just bought the line at Grocery Outlet. I didn’t purchase the wash. I love the way my skin feels especially my chin. That was an area that was a bit rough. I’m going back because Grocery outlet doesn’t always have the same items on stock.
A WONDERFUL PRODUCT IT HAS WORKED FOR ME THE DAY CREAM
i just purchased the night cream , i am confused now between all the different experience with the product, i believe it varies from skin to another, i am going to start using it and i will keep you posted about the result.
I bought this product (eye cream, night cream & Daytime lotion) from CVS. It was on sale and as a skincare freak I had to try it out. It wasnt until a few days later that I noticed the products had expired and really I’m the type of person who is just to lazy to try and dig up a receipt and return things. So maybe you can help me with this question:
My skin around my eyes has dried out and is flaking; my face had tiny dry red bumps that itch and this started when I began using the black rice. I have 10+ years working in cosmetics and this has never happened to me before, even with a product that was close to it’s shelf life. Has anyone else had a reaction like this or do you think it may just be CVS and the time out on display? I’m not sure what to do, try it again or not, but it’s to late for me to return/exchange what I have.
Any ideas?
Thanx for the info about the Grocery Outlet. After visiting and talking with CVS, I was disappointed that CVS stopped carrying the Black Rice products. I so much love Black Rice and how it makes my face feel and look wonderful. I use the face scrub, the day face cream and the night cream. I need to stock up quickly and make a second run to the Grocery Outlet. Any chance where else we can buy Black Rice?
I purschase the black rice Dual phase night cream only on pure instinct about 2 weeks ago at at oulet store we have here called JOB LOT. I paid only five dollar for the bottle so i figured hey why not. I have never heard of the brand or read any prior reviews on this product until today. I have very sensative skin so i try to avoid anything that with huge amount of chemicals. The first i like about this cream is the bottle. Its black and sleek, and not bulky. Its fits well in my messenger bag. The second thing is that i love the way it feels on your face when you put it on. It glides very smoothly on your skin. It also feels like it starts working right away. My face feel smooth within a minute or so. Ive notice after two weeks that face haven’t broken out as much and my wrinkles around my mouth and eyes is slightly less visiable. I looked at a picture today that was taken a couple of days ago where i notice how clean my face looked. No red spots of irratation. (i struggle my whole life with this). So far this cream is holding very well even with this new england whether compare to everything else if used before.
Black Rice .5 Eye Cream and 1.68 Night Cream are on sale this week for $3.50 each at Ocean State Job Lots in the new england states. Check this out: http://www.oceanstatejoblot.com/coupons

I bought these products at Grocery Outlet. I found the equivalent Perlier Black Rice at Marshalls on clearance for $3.00. I prefer the Perlier brand, it was smoother, had no odor, the matte effect on my skin was noticeable instantly. I am awaiting the long term effects and comparing it to alpha hydroxy acid or glycolic acid. I tried looking for the actual medical literature on black rice on skin, and found some animal studies showing anti-inflamatory actions on mice skin. I am not a mouse, so will wait to see.
Wow. I have uses many, many expensive face creams and cleansers and this product is incredible. If you buy nothing else buy the brightening cleanser. It’s effects are similar to the highest costing glycolic cleansers out there. Your skin feels amazing after and it can be tissued off to for laziness like me when you can’t seem to get from your bed to the bathroom. I don’t think there advertising was good enough. For the price it is well worth it. If they sold in dept stores it would easily bring in the big bucks.
I first bought the cleanser and daily cream last year. I love the daily cream. It is the only product that keeps my skin balanced and prevent the adult acne I seem to be prone to. I have had a hard time finding the daily cream. My CVS has not had any of the products lately. I highly recommend this to maturing women.
The only product I’ve tried in this line is the eye cream and I’m sad to say that, in the two months that I’ve been using it, I have seen absolutely no change. I only have fine lines, so I was hoping to get a hand on it before they get worse. Unfortunately, I don’t believe this creams going to do it. I paid next to nothing for the product, so I’m okay with that.
Grocery Outley sells this line for 5.00 an item.
I purchased the dual effects Night Cream at Grocery Outlet (great prices!) and have been using it for about a week. I like the way it feels, am hoping for good long term effects. I dont have problem skin, but would like to see lessening of some wrinkles, and some firming. At 59, I really dont think there are any miracle lotions or creams -but would be happy with a bit healthier looking skin in general. I plan to try the other products in the line as well.
I just purchased the Pure Black Rice day cream with SPF 15 from Grocery Outlet for $4.99. They had other products from the line as well. I live in California. So if there are any Grocery Outlets in your area, it’s a good spot for trying out products for a deep discount.
Can’t find this product anywhere & I also loved it. My CVS does not carry it anymore & we have no Grocery Outlit stores in my area.(Long Island ,NY) Any suggestions out there?
