Adventures in Finding the Perfect Red Heels

As I was challenged to find “the perfect red shoe”, not to mention, the perfect outfit to go with the perfect red shoe, I learned a few things about myself as a woman and as a shopper. This journey, of sort, to pull together a gorgeous ensemble for a swanky grand-opening party was one for the books…or at least for a blog. My friend Tammy (the red high heel guru of the blogosphere) invited me to share my shoe shopping adventure with you. So, I was not only pressured to dress myself appropriately for this party, but to do it for the critiquing eyes of Tammy’s discriminating followers.

First, as a mom of six (four at home), I am budget-challenged when it comes to making unnecessary purchases for myself. It’s a little hard to justify the likes of Jimmy Choo or Marc Jacobs when you have to feed a family. Having expensive taste isn’t always fun.

Nevertheless, I figured with around $175 I could put a decent outfit together that included some power red heels. Tammy suggested that I splurge on some killer Steve Madden’s and go “cheap dress.” I thought about it but was leaning more toward an edgier look with jeans and dressy accessories. In fact, like a geeky perfectionist, I put together a Power Point slide that looked damn good with my stellar selections that were within my budget.

The money for my duds came in several stages. Some was a birthday gift from my daughter; some was on a gift card; and the rest came from a rebate we got from the recent purchase of a new car (thanks Hyundai). It would have been nice to just go and buy everything in one day, but that wasn’t possible. At least I knew what I was going to buy. My plan ensured that I wouldn’t have to spend hours searching with blistered feet and cranky kids. Or so I thought.

With only two days left before the party, I had all of my pieces except for the most important thing…the perfect red shoe. According to the Power Point display, it was going to be a $69 suede pump by Jessica Simpson. For some reason when I got to DSW and tried it on, I wasn’t satisfied. Like an unhappy Dorothy venturing off to find the perfect life in another land, I was off to see the “wizard”. At least she had her ruby slippers.

I never found the wizard or the man behind the curtain. However, with a patient husband who was willing to carry the Missy Moo (toddler girl) through every store in the mall, surely I could find some silly shoes. Nine o’clock (closing time) rolled around and I was a broken woman. No perfect red shoes. “But wait; there’s always tomorrow! I said to myself. The next day I was drawn back to DSW with determination to love the JS pump. And, like magic (the shoe angel) I knew that the perfect red shoe was there all along. It was love at second sight. Like Dorothy, again, I had come home…with my beautiful red shoes. BTW, the party was fabulous and I loved being the only mom in red high heels!

That is not pretty! Read Heidi Klum again. Sorry, its too much “fashion victim” for me. Glad you enjoyed yourself, though.

    4. Tammy says:

Kellie was going for an edgy look for the Salon opening. I think she hit it with the top and accessories. The shoes could go either way- edgy or classic, with jeans or a black pencil skirt.

Assuming this is NOT spam, the picture is me. Thanks.

No it is not you madame, it belongs to my sister whom has had it on her blog 4 years now. I am giving you the benefit that you may have found it online not knowing. It looks nothing like you as you are older and have short hair to boot. Remove it and I will also send you its copyright to view. The copyright infringment has your site address as violating it, also your website is now known on the lists online as stealing images with copyright. Remove the image of Deborah Young or you will be sent a formal complaint and notify your ISP.

      Dear Blog Owner,
Why do you have Ms Young on your blog header? Ms Young is a well known Journalist in Portland Maine and THAT is her likeness done by a local New England artist from her photo taken at an award dinner in 2007. I too suggest you remove it as a responsible writer yourself.

    9. Tammy says:

@Noel Thomas: I guess I need to meet Ms Young as apparently we are twins. The picture in the header is myself. I have the original image files and a personal friend who took the pictures.

I will not be removing my own picture from my blog. I’d like to see the image I am accused of stealing and welcome a conversation with Ms. Young to clear this up. Clearly, the image is me if you simple take the time to look at my blog and see the variety of images I post of myself throughout.

    10. Tammy says:

@Susan Ambre: And I suppose that Deborah is holding my daughter on my About page as well? FYI, there is not a single picture of me on this blog that has me with short hair- do your homework before making threats. Please stop hassling me. I will not remove the image as it is NOT Deborah. If you want a legal battle, bring it on; the image is me. Thus far all you and your commenting friends have been able to do is accuse. You show no evidence of this fictional Deborah or that you have have an image. Stop the threats and rudeness.
