A peplum is a skirted flounce that is attached to the waistline of a dress, shirt, top or jacket. It returned to the racks of most fashion retailers this year and I’m sure you’ve seen it being worn off the runway. I recently purchased a sleeveless peplum sweater in a gorgeous pumpkin orange for fall!
Who can wear peplum?
- Peplum can effectively create an hour class shape for women who do not naturally have curves.
- Peplum can also camouflage the lower half of a pear shaped body.
- Peplum that sits just above the waist, at the narrowest part of your torso, will hide any hint that a soft tummy exists (perfect for new moms!)
- Take caution if your an inverted triangle, as peplum can cause your hips to look wider than they are.
What to wear with a peplum top:
- pencil skirts
- tailored pants
- skinny jeans
What NOT to wear with peplum:
- jeans, other than skinny
- pleated pants or skirts
- high-low skirts
Basically, you want to think about balance. If you add volume on top, the lower portion should be sleek.
