Parisian Style: Chic Scarves

Not only do Parisian women have footwear perfected, they know how to accessorize as well! A rich scarf creates an understated elegance and they wear them year-round just changing up the fabric to something lighter in the warmer weather. Even the men wear them and they are not afraid of color! I saw several men in pink, purple and other typically feminine colors!

Christine and I desperately searched to find the perfect scarf to take home to the States. The street vendors sold them right along with miniature Eiffel Towers! She finally selected a soft lightweight scarf in a gorgeous pink. I eventually found a gray and black striped warm winter scarf that I had to call my own. Secretly, I wish I had found a gorgeous purple scarf like the one I borrowed from Erika!

To wear a scarf like a Parisian, you have to know how to properly tie it. They don’t wrap it around the neck and leaving the ends hanging down like so many do in the States. Honestly, that is the reason I never got into wearing scarves before- the ends were so long and got in the way of every activity!

In Paris, and anywhere you want to look FAB in your scarf, you need to do the European Loop.

  • Start by folding your scarf in half length-wise
  • Hang the scarf around your neck with the ends on one side of your neck and the loop on the other
  • Pass the ends through the loop
  • Tighten the loop

This provides color by your face, warmth on your neck and a flair of European style to your look!  Once I learned this Loop, I fell in love with scarves and now I wonder how I ever lived without one! Now…if it would just get cold enough to wear one…
