Time starved, but needing a workout? There are three basic movements that you can do anytime, anywhere that will challenge your fitness levels, keep you fit, and get you lean. These exercises could be done at home, in the garage, in the office, at the park or in your closet. They take no space and no equipment. I would encourage anyone to try these out!
My top three movements for an “on the go” workout include the Air Squat, the Push-Up and Sit-Ups. Air Squats really do engage your entire body if done properly, push-ups is one of the best exercises for your upper body and naturally, the sit-ups will work your core. I’d recommend starting with a low number like 25 of each and working your way up! Or you could mix it up and do rounds of each such as 5 Push-ups, 10 Sit-Ups and 15 Air Squats and see how many rounds you can do in 5 or 10 minutes. When I first started working with these exercises, I did 100 on Day 1. I do not recommend this if you’d like to walk in comfort for the next 6 days! Start small and build up.
The Air Squat, as demonstrated by me. Key here is to have the butt go below parallel. It’s a fast movement and can get your heart rate up quickly!
The Push-up is done in two movements. The first is starting in a plank position. The second position is the finishing position where your chest touches the ground. A modification of this could be with knees on the ground.
Finally, the Sit-Up. I placed a cushion under my back to support my lumbar curve but a blanket would be even better. Simply place it as close to your bottom as possible. The finished position should be with fingers touching the ends of your shoes and you should be sitting up with a flat back.
All of these exercises have been taught to me by my Cross Fit instructors and I’d highly recommend that you watch these YouTube videos to make sure you understand the movements correctly.
But, again, these are three of the BEST exercises you could do at home, any time!
