New Mom Seeking New Hairstyle

Heather is a brand new, first time mom. She is going through the ponytail phase like many moms do and wants out! We asked our hairstyle expert, Erin from Salon Hive and My Hairstyling Tools to give us her expert opinion on Heather’s hair.

Heather Says:
I just had my first child 3 months ago and I seriously need a new hairstyle. It has to be low maintenance – either something that can dry naturally or something short so it won’t take too long to blow dry. I generally have thick hair (well, fine hair but a lot of it) but I’m dealing with the post-pregnancy hair loss now, so I figure it will be thinner than I’m used to for a while.

In general my hair is in pretty good condition – uncolored and rarely blowdried/flat-ironed. It tends to have a lot of natural wave (not really shown in the pic since it was pulled back all day), and sometimes curls when it’s short (loose curls), but can also tend towards frizzy. I’d love a shorter hairstyle that’s still a little edgy – not something that screams “MOM!” :) Bangs are a plus, since I have a high forehead. As it is now, I always wear it back in a ponytail or clip.

Erin says:
Wow, what beautiful eyes! The first thing that came to mind when I saw Heather was a longer bob hairstyle where it is a little shorter in the back, longer towards the front. She says she wants short and simple and let me tell you, ever since I got my hair cut short the amount of styling time has dropped big time! I also love that with a longer bob hairstyle it is still long enough to wave, curl or wear straight.
As for bangs, I think some light fringe would look fabulous; I wouldn’t want to take away too much attention from those beautiful eyes.

Here are some cuts I think would look really good on Heather:

Charlize Theron
Love this cut !

graduated layers with curl
This style is super cute and looks great with curls!

full bangs
For bangs, I think having them at a length were they can go straight across or to the side would look great.

As for color, I wouldn’t recommend doing anything too drastic. For summer, a few highlights always look great and can add some shimmer and make hair look shinier.

Editor’s Note:  Heather, I might also recommend the cut that Jessica Alba is wearing in the picture below.  Erin recommended it for me a while back and I really think it is gorgeous!  The bangs are side-swept here but could easily be worn down on the forehead for a more casual look.

Heather, we would love for you to send us a picture after you make the cut so we can see how FAB you look! Best wishes!
