After a hard year with controversy, divorce and seeking new opportunities, reality show mom, Kate Gosselin, is going for a dramatic change. On the cover of People magazine, Kate models her new hair extensions.

Kate tells People, “It’s good to have hair again. I never thought I’d have short hair for as long as I did. I feel like this is a fresh start, a fresh me, a fresh life… I’ve got it. I am now Kate Clean Slate.” Kate adds, “I’m rebuilding. There’s no option for this not to be a good year. Now I get to start over with a new self and new goals.”
I thought Kate looked pretty fabulous when she showed off her new look, with softer wavy hair, on The View in September. I don’t like this look on Kate. Don’t get me wrong, I think the look of good hair extensions is pretty but I don’t think it will meet the needs of this crazy busy mom of 8! Her personality is less Barbie-like and more kick-butt Rihanna. I think Kate should stick with an edgier style. But, it’s nice to know that adding extensions can make such a difference in one’s looks…she is almost unrecognizable, isn’t she? Kate’s extensions were done by the hairstyle guru on What Not to Wear, Ted Gibson.
I asked keratin hair treatment and extension specialist, Jordana Lorraine, what the cost of the extensions likely ran Kate and she said, “A full set of long blonde extensions like Kate’s would be around $2000 (likely more with Ted Gibson) and would need to be maintained about every 4 months. They also require some daily upkeep and take much longer to blowdry than natural/short hair (leaving them to air dry may decrease their longevity).
But this look could be attained using clip-in extensions for only $500. Then one could keep the daily routine easy, but have the glamorous look with minimal effort.”
I guess Kate’s got some time to kill and money to burn…plus, a really helpful Nanny!
What about you, do you like this look on Kate?

She looks cute!
I like Kate with long hair, just not *this* long hair. I’d like to see other photos because I don’t think the hair looks very nice here. She is really pretty and this style looks like she just had them put in and the photo was taken, know what I mean?
As I recall she cut off all her hair in the first place because of all the kids, now that the “babies” are 5 she can do this again… but something tells me, the short hair will be back soon!
I agree, the short hair will be back…I just really feel that she is trying to be something she is not. Like when I try to go short, I feel uncomfortable and I’m not myself. I think she’ll find it high maintanence and costly.
I, too, will be curious to see how long this look lasts…
It’s strange that she looks a bit like Hillary Duff.
She looks great with the hair extensions.
I personally do not like them
I think the short hair was more fitting for your look and lifestyle.
I think the biggest challenge here would have been the short pieces in the back, which we can’t see here. As Britney and Paris have demonstrated, short hair just doesn’t blend with super-long hair. A medium length would be more blendable, and also easier to care for. It’s safe to assume Kate has plenty of “help,” but she still has 8 kids to look after!
Medium length hair would have been a less dramatic makeover and maybe we wouldn’t all be talking about it so much! If they prove too difficult, she can always have them cut shorter.
