Mister ‘A Mom in Red High Heels’ Goes Shopping

Like many husbands, mine is not a shopper. “Get in. Get out. Get on with your life” is pretty much his motto when it comes to shopping. But, thanks to Men’s Wearhouse, I was able to take him on a shopping spree for some really nice clothes! A man needs to look good when his wife is wearing red high heels, you know?

My husband donated his suit several years ago as it was dated and very rarely worn. He does own plenty of button down dress shirts, a bunch of ties (which no longer get worn!) and a couple pairs of dress pants. He owns plenty of Docker-type pants and has a few pairs of dress shoes. If we wanted to go on a dinner date, he has a wardrobe to select from. If we wanted to go on a NICE dinner date, to a wedding or a someplace more dressing than our usual haunts, he was at a loss for what to wear. His wardrobe had holes.

Along comes an opportunity to spend some time in our local Men’s Wearhouse where Kristy, the manager, donned us with her undivided attention (and she wore red high heels, she was great!)! Since it’s just as important for a man to own a great suit as it is for a woman to own a little black dress and fabulous red high heels, we started with the suit fitting. Larry (aka Mister ‘A Mom in Red High Heels’) tried on conservative navy blue, classic black, pinstripe and a check suit. The Michael Kors Charcoal Check Suit was the favorite. This gorgeous suit is so versatile! It can be worn with black or brown shoes, a large variety of shirt colors and ties, as well as worn with a dress tee, instead of a button down dress shirt. In addition to it’s versatility, it just looks more relaxed and modern than a navy or black suit. This charcoal gray suit was a winner for Larry’s needs.

We also looked at sport coats, another staple for a man’s wardrobe. Instead of going with a traditional sport coat, Larry chose a faux leather blazer that looks great with jeans and a variety of more casual pants. Larry looked hot in this coat. It was very exciting for me to see him in this type of style. Like with any makeover, when a person wears something fabulous that they normal don’t wear, it sheds a whole new light on the person. In my opinion, a leather-like blazer is far more sexy than a fleece pull-over sweatshirt. Yeah… I’m excited to see my husband in this new look! Come on date night!

After we had established the key wardrobe pieces we’d be bringing home with us, the on-site tailor marked up the suit and sport coat to alter the fit. They guarantee if they have altered a seam once, you will never have to pay to have it altered again, within the limitations of the original garment, should you gain a few pounds or lose weight. Finally, the attentive staff at Men’s Wearhouse put together a variety of options to wear with both the suit and the sport coat. They have amazing skills! Their training, and naturally good eye, helps customers with the shopping process. We could have spent thousands of dollars because everything they laid out worked beautifully. I was surprised at the versatility of what they chose and how what worked with a charcoal check suit could also work with a brown leather-like jacket! From the shoes to the socks to the pocket silk, every detail of the outfit was thought through.

Talk about easy shopping for a guy- my husband’s style of shopping! Just walk into a Men’s Wearhouse, tell them you want a sport coat and some wardrobe basics to go with it and they’ll give you multiple complete outfits to choose from. It was an amazing experience and I seriously wish I had the talent and knowledge that they have! They truly are professionals!

The aspect of the time spent at Men’s Wearhouse that surprised me most was the variety of styles offered there. I honestly thought they would have suits, dress shoes, ties, dress shoes and little more. I was wrong- way wrong! They offered casual wear, active wear, casual shoes and jeans as well as the tuxedos and suits. It was a great discovery as there are not many places to shop locally for my husband. Now, I’ll go there first, and use my new Perfect Fit Rewards card that earns me a $50 rewards certificate for every $500 I spend there.

In the end, I highly recommend the Men’s Wearhouse. What does Larry say? He agrees, ” They made the experience very pleasant. The attention I received was top notch and the selection was great.”
