Meet Stacey Mayesh, NYC Fashion Stylist

Your Name: Stacey Mayesh

How many children do you have? 2 (ages 4 and 7)

Your Business Name: Stacey Mayesh

Brief Description of Your Business:

I’m a fashion stylist based in NYC.

I spent 15 yrs working with major fashion magazines (Marie Claire, In Style, Glamour, Self, Allure, Teen Vogue, Seventeen) and big celebrities (Jessica Alba, Selma Blair, Susan Sarandon, Natasha Richardson, Angie Harmon, Sean Combs, to name a few)

I now focus on working with private clients, as a hybrid Stylist and Personal Shopper. My clients are “real” women as opposed to model and celebs. I edit their closets, do all of their shopping and create individual, personalized “look books” of all of their outfits, styled head to toe.

I take the stress out of getting dressed and give my clients the confidence that they’re looking amazing and stylish 24/ 7, whether they’re picking their kids up at school, going to the office, going to a fabulous movie premier or benefit at the MET.

My proudest career moment was being featured in Vogue magazine’s June 2008 issue. That was such an honor!

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule?

It’s a CONSTANT JUGGLE. I have to be VERY organized- every moment of my day is accounted for.

What is your favorite beauty tip?

  • If your hair is curly, let it be wild and free- don’t fight it (I’m a curly girl obviously!)
  • Makeup must be done in 5 minutes or less for day- nothing fussy
  • A great red lip is instant glamour for evening

Tell us about the outfit that makes you feel confident and beautiful.

That changes too often to pinpoint, but in general, there’s nothing like a great sexy pair of heels to make you feel like a women (my faves- Louboutin, Alaia, Lanvin, YSL). Right now I’m really into my over the knee boots. My favorites are the black Chloe suede version that lace up behind the knee but the heel is too high for me so I can’t wear them! I found a great pair from Loeffler Randall though that do the trick with a heel I can walk in all day on NYC streets.

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion?

net-a-porter.com

What motivates you to look your best?

Hmmmm….vanity? Isn’t that what motivates us all? I try to live my life in a creative, spiritual and meaningful way and impart those values to my children, but let’s face it, we all must admit we’re vain! Well, those of us who love fashion and beauty anyway!

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips?

You can say that again! Me time for me varies on a spectrum from limited to non existent. Late night is when I catch up…uh, ok, I’m writing this interview at 11pm so there you have it. I definitely aspire to having me time more than I actually get it but I do think it’s crucial to carve out time for yourself, even if it’s as simple as getting a mani /pedi or getting in a great work out. For me, the key is doing double duty- if I’m sitting in the pedicure chair, I have to be returning calls and emails at the same time! Mani meetings are also good…why sit in a meeting across from a desk when you can have your meeting and get a mani at the same time?

Name one beauty product you can’t live without:

My dear friend Carmindy’s (from What Not to Wear) natural, paraben free makeup line for Sally Hansen and my other dear friend Karen’s lip gloss, Huge Lips Skinny Hips by Purple Lab. It helps to have friends in the beauty biz…lots of great free samples and personal recommendations from the source on colors and application.

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair.

Heels in my dreams, flats in the reality of my NYC sidewalk stomping life…on and off the subway and in and out of cabs all day long!

Dream heels- 5 inch Alaia platforms.

Reality- my gizeh thong birkenstocks in the summer, funky bronze Tessa Clogs in the fall and no. 6 (an amazingly chic boutique in NYC’s nolita owned by a former fashion stylist) shearling lined clog boots in the winter. I also wear a lot of Lanvin ballerina flats.

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Do you have a favorite brand/color?

Gloss for sure- see above. Love matte red lip stick but too high maintenance for me!

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share:

Style is more about creating an individual look than following every trend.

    1. curly hair says:

Love your curly hair! Do you do anything in particular though to get that stunning curly hair?

I also have curly hair and it doesn’t come natural to get the great result I want. It involves lots of products, particularly conditioner and gel.

What’s your favorite curly hair products?
