Your Business Name: One Chic Mama and Mostess Creations

Brief Description of Your Business: One Chic Mama is a resource for moms designed to help them keep their style and stay in touch with what’s going on – because motherhood doesn’t have to mean the end of style. Inside every mom there really is one chic mama!
Mostess Creations is my design site featuring our lovely, handcrafted baby bib and burp cloth sets, and mother/daughter aprons with a vintage sensibility in some of the cutest cotton prints around.

Do you get yourself ready everyday or do you find yourself hanging out in jammies for a large portion of the day? I get myself ready every single day, and have since I had my daughter over 4 years ago. I feel that it’s important to take time for myself to look and feel pulled together. Sometimes I have 5 minutes to do that and other days I can take my time. But the message I want to send my children is that they are important, and I am important too. I feel I’m just a better mom when I’ve had a shower and look my best (or at least look ready for the day).

What is your favorite beauty tip? Eat well. You really are what you eat, and what you put inside your body will either nourish and hydrate your skin and hair, or it will deplete it. As I grow older (I just hit 40!) I see the importance of keeping everything nourished, hydrated and in good shape. Plus, when I eat well I have more energy to keep up with the kiddos!

What did your mother teach you about beauty and fashion? My mother is quite stylish herself and has been a good role model. She always looks pulled together and has an eye for fashion without being overly done. She sets a great example to look your best and to get on with life – don’t obsess about it. She also taught me about combining high and low fashion – investing in key pieces and then adding a few inexpensive pieces to create a look that is more than the sum of its parts. She’s a great bargain shopper (although she doesn’t have to shop that way) and you’d never know that by looking at her.

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why? My current favorite outfit is my new pair of Seven high-waisted boot-cut jeans paired with a 3/4 length sleeve deco print top from Elle at Kohl’s, Donald J. Pliner mules and a handcrafted geometric necklace from Metamorphosis. See? It’s a mix of high/low.

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion? Hmmm.. I have so many. I like Style.com for key looks and tips, Anthropologie.com just to swoon over all it’s lovelies, and Sephora.com to keep up with all the fabulous cosmetics around.

What motivates you to look your best? I want to look and feel my best for my family. It’s important to me that my children see me taking care of myself so that I can set a good example. It’s important for me to look good for my husband to keep the spark alive! And it’s important for me to look good for me because it makes me feel good, and when I feel good I’m more, well, me!

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips? I like products that multitask. Wear tinted moisturizer with sunscreen in place of foundation – you’ll combine three steps in one. Wear tinted lipgloss instead of lipstick and gloss. Use a combination shower gel/shampoo (Philosophy makes a great one). Smile – even when you don’t have time for make-up, it works wonders for your appearance!

Name one product you can’t live without: Aveda’s control paste for hair ( I have very thick hair and this helps to tame it).

Heels or flats? Mostly flats (I’m 5’10″), but occasionally heels.

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Which brand/color? I really like Lipstick from Aveda or Bobbi Brown.

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share:Play up what you have and make the most of what you’d like to have. Attitude is key. Be comfortable in the skin you’re in and it’ll show!
