Meet Margo Hertzfeld of Rosy Glow Beauty Company

Your Name: Margo Hertzfeldmargo_rosy_glow

How many children do you have? Daughter Claire, with another one due in 6 weeks!

Your Business Name: Rosy Glow Beauty Company

Brief Description of Your Business: First-ever beauty products created for the special needs of new moms (read problem-solvers for tired eyes, parched lips, neglected complexions). All-natural and all about moms!

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule? Well, I have to give my daughter her fair credit. She is overall very patient and good at entertaining herself, and still naps most days at 3! But as any mom business owner knows, there is that constant push and pull between devoting time to your child and putting effort into your business. There is never enough time, and you just have to settle yourself to that.

What is your favorite beauty tip? As a makeup artist that is tough. In the bigger picture, I would have to say working with your own best features (we all have them) and accepting your “worst” features as God-given and do what you can to be comfortable with them. For example, when I was doing makeup professionally, the top complaint from my clients was dark under eye circles. So I would show them some tricks to cover them up naturally (how I wish I had had Get Your Glow Back Eyes then!) so they were no longer a focus and they could see there other wonderful features.

What did your mother teach you about beauty and fashion? My mother taught me what I mentioned above – that we each have our own unique beauty, and style too for that matter.

What beauty/fashion tips will you be sure to share with your daughter, niece or neighbor girl as she grows? I would have to say – again – to play on your strengths. And to expand on that, that trends are fun but the most rewarding exercise in beauty and fashion is to find your own personal style – as early as possible! – to carry you confidently through life.

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why? Well I can’t wear my favorite outfit right now! But I would have to say my beautiful handmade wedding dress. I hope to wear it in August for our 5th anniversary – it is a simple design with beautiful ornate lace fabric and a soft drape. I love it because it was everything I had hoped for but mostly because it represents my wonderful marriage!

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion? I think I will always be addicted to Sephora for beauty, and for fashion Anthropologie for its artistic attitude.

What motivates you to look your best? The knowledge that I always have a better day when I put that effort into me first motivates me to do the “whole routine”.

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips? This will certainly sound like an advertisement – but all three of my Rosy Glow Beauty products were created out of my own need to save time and still feel pretty. To generalize, an eye cream for day with a brightener instantly gives your whole face a lift, and lip color is crucial to “fake” a full eight hours, too. No color or nude/browns will leave you looking wan, while a rose or plum (from a tint to full-on lipstick as you prefer) will light up your whole face.

Name one product you can’t live without: Again, advertisement warning: Get Your Glow Back Eyes.

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair. Peep toe heels with a bow when the weather and state of pregnancy allow!

What has been your worst fashion faux pas? I would like to think that would be years behind me, probably in the 90s with leggings and tunics. As I said, trends are not for everybody!

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Which brand/color? Simply couldn’t pick! I have worn lipstick since the age of 14 if you can believe it, and lip smacker lip glosses before that! My ideal is to start with Rosy Glow Lips (it makes everything go on smoother if you let it soak in for a few minutes) then liner and gloss, or lipstick and gloss, or liner and lipstick….as for colors, I have to go with M.A.C with every color and texture in the rainbow.

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share: This has been fun! I have to add, though, that the heart of my business is in helping moms with postpartum struggles. I had my own, and shortly after saw a need in my region for a support group. Ironically I had already started developing Rosy Glow Beauty and realized that they serve the same purpose, with very different approaches. New moms need a lift; whether it is a new beauty product that helps them feel pampered, or a peer mom to listen to their issues with postpartum blues. I am so encouraged to see the growing awareness of the very real needs all new moms have, and hope that the success of my business will in turn help to strengthen our own statewide organization, POEM, www.poemonline.org, and in turn Postpartum Support International, www.postpartum.net.

Editor’s Note: I love Margo!  What an inspiring mom to create a beauty product around the need of moms!  Way to go, Margo!  We wish you all the best with the birth of your second baby!  Thanks for sharing your personal beauty and fashion tips with us!
