Meet Lennore Merz from Violet’s Peapod

Your Name: Lennore Merz
lennore_merz
How many children do you have? Two wonderful children – Violet (20 months old) and Nathan (8 years old)

Your Business Name: Violet’s Peapod

Brief Description of Your Business: I am a Mamapreneur and I own a baby sleep sack business. My sleep sacks are made in the San Francisco Bay Area, are constructed of natural materials (cotton and wool), and they are truly the most adorable things you have ever seen. Check out my website and see for yourself!

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule? I get most of my business dealings done while my 8-year old is in school. Juggling the needs of a toddler, helping my son with his homework, and attending his games leave me with little time to focus on my business during the afternoon. I try to keep my evenings free to have some one-on-one time with my husband, although I have been known to sneak off and do my Quickbooks entries.

What is your favorite beauty tip? “Less is more”…especially in summer. You don’t need a lot of makeup to obtain a glowing, fantastic look. Use a yellow-based tinted moisturizer with SPF, a light bronzer (use where sun naturally hits), a pop of a bright blush in the apple of your cheek, do a light eye, and add lip gloss. Viola!

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why? My white knee-length eyelet dress with a black sash. It fits me like a glove, and I feel like a sexy June Cleaver in it.

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion? I love etsy, because I adore handmade stuff and unique designs. I believe in supporting local & independent designers like myself, and I do my best to steer away from cheap imported goods.

What motivates you to look your best? I care about how I look, and I will never, “Let myself go”. I have my own personal style, and it’s a reflection of who I am.

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips? I keep my makeup regimen simple and quick. I try and get up early enough to take care of myself before the children are awake. Of course, this doesn’t always work out quite as planned!

Name one product you can’t live without: Kiehl’s calendula toner. It tones my skin naturally (it’s made with marigold extract), and leaves my skin feeling refreshed. I used to work for them & get this stuff for free so it’s a bummer out to have to pay for it, but I simply cannot live w/o it!  Available at Kiehl’s stores, Saks, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales.

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair. Low heels – I found a pair of perfect shoes when I was in Rome at a great boutique near the Spanish Steps. They are black, super-pointy, and have only a one-inch, skinny heel. They are ideal because they look chic with dresses or jeans, but are completely comfortable. They are beginning to look worn, however. Anyone going to Rome anytime soon?

What has been your worst fashion faux pas? When I was 18 and just started going to fashion school in SF, I got a job at a department store and had no $ for dressy clothes. I had to borrow clothes from my grandma (which didn’t exactly fit). I still cannot erase that image of me, showing up for work on my first day wearing a houndstooth double-breasted dress! What the folks must’ve thought of me!

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Do you have a favorite brand/color? Lip Gloss – I found a great inexpensive one: Revlon super-lustrous lip gloss (any color). Available at most drug stores.

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share: Embrace who you are…you amazingly beautiful, wonderful you!

    Nice to “meet” you, Lennore!

I really like how you pointed out that you prefer LOW heels. That’s an important distinction. I like having a small heel to add height and sophistication, but wearing 3+ inch heels just isn’t practical for me. On most days, you can find me rocking a baby and running after a 2-year-old so comfort definitely matters…
