Meet Lauren Luke, YouTube Celebrity and Makeup Line Owner

Lauren Luke
Your Name:
Lauren Luke

How many children do you have?
I have a son called Jordan who is 11 years old.

Your Business Name:
ByLaurenLuke

What was your motivation for starting ByLaurenLuke Makeup?
I didn’t have a motivation at first as I was the one that was contacted out of the blue by the company I am now working with. My motivation now has kicked in because I think I’ve been given this huge chance to become someone who can be the voice for real people out there and so this spurs me on and gives me just the drive I need to hopefully succeed at doing so.

Tell us how you got started making video makeup tutorials. What was your inspiration?
I started doing the make up tutorials because I used to sell make up products on Ebay and people would ask me how had I achieved a certain eye effect that had seen in my photos. I was replying constantly in the end so decided to show people how to do the looks in a video rather than just through email. I hadn’t thought beyond that until people were asking for more.

What is your favorite beauty tip?
It would have to be for eye liner beginners: Steady your little finger on your cheek and apply your liquid liner from the middle working outward, then from inner corner meeting in the middle. Two stages is a great way to start before wizzing along your eyes like a pro.

You travel a lot. Can you give us some packing advice? What items are absolutely essential in your carry-on?
Well, I am not completely familiar with the allowed mls for liquids however I do strongly recommend you take on your favourite mascara and lip balm or Vaseline as you always dry up in the air and it’s nice to look good stepping off at the other end with wide awake eyes.

What city has been your favorite to shop in?
I would say online :) before any city or shops.

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why?
It would have to be a pair of Skinny jeans & a Tee teamed with UGG’s & scarf and that’s because it’s the only thing that makes my body shape look OK enough to not spoil my whole day.

How has success changed your style?
It hasn’t changed it one bit, I never dressed up smart before as I always voted for comfort over beauty. I would like to sometimes, but it just doesn’t feel right on me. I end up looking for my skinnies and UGG’s again.

What motivates you to look your best?
This is a hard one for me to answer because I can’t remember a time when I felt I looked my best.

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips?
Well, I don’t know if this will help anyone but I share the bathroom with Jordan in the morning. He brushes his teeth with toothpaste whilst I brush my lashes with mascara :)

What has been your worst fashion faux pas?
I would say I have one everyday just as bad as the last one :)

Heels or Flats? Tell us about your favorite pair:
Oh, for me it has to be flats. UGG’s are my favourites. I have this pair which tie right up and look like snow boots. They are not a good idea in the summer or at airports when doing your baggage & flight check-in because they always ask for me to remove them and they take forever to get off.

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share:
Yes I would and that would be to wear whatever you want to wear and whatever you are comfortable in. Don’t feel bad about your choice just because the magazines said its not in fashion or a certain make up product isn’t this seasons hottest colour.  You may not actually suit this seasons fashions and colours but don’t go beating yourself up about that.  Do what ever makes you happy because you are what’s important.

A bit more from Lauren from her website regarding her makeup line, By Lauren Luke:
“I always dreamed of having my own makeup line where I could develop products that made people feel special – that I myself would be over the moon to wear. The excitement that comes from makeup is something very personal. We all have our own reasons for being so excited by it, mine is definitely because of the colour and the fact it can bring out the best in everyone. We are all doing the same thing with makeup but with our own personal edge.

I went into this with something very specific in mind – a great product that works, at an affordable price that will help you embrace color and experiment more.

My hope is that you will be waiting at the letterbox for your package about to chew the postman’s hand off with excitement just like I always am.”

Editor’s Note: Lauren is a lot of fun to learn makeup application from! You’ve seen her videos posted on A Mom in Red High Heels (see above) and can find more on ByLaurenLuke.com. Her line is extremely affordable (palettes are $32.50).

Thank you for taking the time to share with us Lauren! I can’t wait to see what new tutorials you come out with and watch your makeup line grow!
