What was your inspiration to start your business?
The ShopSueyBoutique.com online store was started in 1999 by self proclaimed “shop-a-holic” and owner Heather Gray. Shopping for her friends soon became a neighborhood sensation. When strangers started showing up on Heather’s doorstep as if her home was a retail shop, she decided to start a website so that her new-found following could shop from home! What started as a way for this stay at home mom to earn extra money way back when her two daughters were babies, has blossomed in to a world famous internet shopping site. Being featured constantly in fashion magazines as the go-to site for “looks for less” and “celebrity inspired fashion” has established the Shop Suey name and created our very recognizable brand.
When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule?
To-Do lists are a must! I’m notorious for waking up at 1am to add to my list, if I don’t write down everything I need to do, I’m a mess. I’m also a really skilled multi-tasker, which helps.
What is your favorite beauty tip?
Two things:
1. If I need to go out on the town after long day at work I take a “napachino”…drink a really strong cup of coffee, then lay down and try to sleep for 15 min. by the time the caffeine kicks in you have relaxed enough to get your second wind!
2. In the shower if you put toothpaste all over your face and let the steam soak in then rinse, you will feel like you have had a facial and your make-up will go on so smooth and you will have that pretty glow!
What is your favorite beauty product to bring along when you travel?
My super powered, professional hair dryer! (Bio Ionic Power Light). I have really curly hair that I hate so, I straighten it out every day. Without my special hairdryer, I don’t travel well!
Tell us about the outfit that makes you feel confident and beautiful.
I’m always happy in a very flattering black dress.
What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion?
Anthropologie online or in person is always inspiring and fun. Beauty online would be, instyle.com
What motivates you to look your best?
Other women and their opinions certainly keep me on my “A” game! I think it’s in my best interest to try and always look my best and represent my business. When I look my best I think clearer and I’m much more confident.
As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips?
Brush your teeth in the shower. Blowdry your hair with one hand and put your make-up on with the other. Plan your outfit out the night before so you don’t have any wardrobe melt downs the next day when you are already running late!
Name one beauty product you can’t live without:
Bobbi Brown lip gloss, in Posey.
Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair.
I’m too tall and my feet are too big (size 10) for heels not to mention that I can’t walk in them at all! I have found a way to make flats or cute flat strappy sandals work with everything in my wardrobe. My fave are a pair of open toe Greek looking sandals. They go with almost anything!
Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Do you have a favorite brand/color?
Lip liner and colored gloss, both Bobbi Brown. For the past 8 years now I have not found anything I like better.
