Meet Gretchen Jakub Fabre of Chichiboulie

    By Tammy | October 26, 2009

    Your Name:
    Gretchen Jakub Fabre
    Gretchen Jakub Fabre
How many children do you have?
    3. Two daughters, ages (almost) 10 and 7 and one son, age 3

    Your Business Name:
    Chichiboulie

    Brief Description of Your Business:
I am an illustrator specializing in children’s designs. I work with original paintings and reproductions. I also run a custom design business creating logos for companies as well as personalized artwork to suit my client’s needs.

My images have also been made into cards, invitations, birth announcements, stamps and more.

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule?
Whenever I can! I usually download and do a quick check of emails first thing in the morning while the children are getting dressed for school. Then I finish up emails and check in with various sites for orders when I’m back from the school run. My youngest has only just started nursery and isn’t in every day so it’s a pretty tight schedule. Days can get pretty hectic and long at times, but somehow it all seems to fit in.

What is your favorite beauty tip?

What did your mother teach you about beauty and fashion?
Probably that natural is best. And that apparently I have a small face and long hair is too overwhelming for me!

Tell us about the outfit that makes you feel confident and beautiful.
I have a few favourite dresses that are cut just right for me. They are simple and easy to wear, but make me feel fabulous. And I’ve just bought a gorgeous pair of autumn boots, stretch so they fit wonderfully. They’ll be getting a lot of wear.

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion?
I’m a big Boden fan, probably because I adore polka dots and they do them so well. I also love Etsy for unique accessories.

What motivates you to look your best?
Myself. Before becoming a mother, I worked as a fashion buyer so I’ve always been interested in it. When I had my first child and then started working from home, I vowed that I wouldn’t spend my days in pyjamas. Taking the time to dress nicely every day makes me feel better overall and my husband appreciates it too.

Name one beauty product you can’t live without:
Just one? My facial cleanser would be a big one and then probably my under-eye concealer and mascara. Eyes are important to me apparently.

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair.
I love both, but am probably more of a flats girl as it’s easier to chase after toddlers and puppies in them. Besides the above described boots, I have a new favourite pair of sandals as well. Black patent thongs with a big black flower on the top of each. Such fun! I admittedly have a bit of a shoe fetish, but don’t we all?

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Do you have a favorite brand/color?
Definitely lipstick when I think of it. I don’t like shiny lips. Matte is more my style. As for colour, mostly natural medium redish brown.
