Meet Debra Mitchell of ‘Twisted Silver’

Your Name: Debra Mitchell

How many children do you have? 3 amazing kids and hubby

Your Business Name: Twisted Silver llc

Brief Description of Your Business: Fabulous and Funky Jewelry (see for yourself!)

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule? I started my business when I got my baby in to school full time- so I have limited time in the summer but about 7 hours a day during the school year- thank goodness for rock star employees!!

What is your favorite beauty tip? Lately?…For sun damaged skin: Fraxel Laser treatment and for healthy eyelashes: Revitalash

What did your mother teach you about beauty and fashion? Be your own person, love who you are, and natural beauty is best, AND when you are feeling bad, do something kind for someone else. I really think this is the key to confidence.

What beauty/fashion tips will you be sure to share with your daughter, niece or neighbor girl as she grows? The same my mother taught me- Know who you are, there is only One you in the world- and go with that!

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why? A swingy baby doll dress with soft brown leather cowboy boots. (And there is a story behind it? An artistic friend told me that she was “feeling inspired” and wanted to sew for me. After talking with her and passing over to her a decade of vacation treasures (like a vintage Japanese kimono, Finnish linen and raw silk, hand made lace) This piece is a postcard to me- lots of neat memories… and perfectly suited to my style! But I’ve also put my model in it for my Fall shoot (shown right).

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion- I can’t live without www.orghipchick.com for clothing. I also love www.anthropologie.com

What motivates you to look your best? Just knowing I get so much more done when I feel good about myself motivates me to take care of myself.

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips?

-A simple, low maintenance haircut – I went from waist length hair and 3 little kids to short shorter and shortest- chin length is the longest I go anymore. The shorter my hair is the more I love it for the ease and style. I have never missed the long hair.

-Exercise first thing in the morning

-And oh yes, flossing saves hours in the dentist chair!

Name one product you can’t live without: Maybelline Great Lash washable mascara- AND AHAVA hand cream- I am addicted!

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair. Flats for sure! My favorites are black leather Capezio ballerina style square toed flats- but one has currently gone missing- so if anyone knows where I can get another pair I would appreciate it!

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Which brand/color? I like sporty glosses like Chap Stick or Neutrogena- I have it in the purse in the car and in the makeup drawer!

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share: In my opinion the statement Beauty comes from within is very true. Take care of you- Listen to that little voice inside, and if you are feeling stressed out- don’t ignore it. I have really benefited from biofeedback, but Yoga or other relaxation routines work too.

Editor’s Note: Debra, you have a very internal sense of beauty. It is important to look at what is going on inside your body, as you say, to really benefit from the beauty on the outside. Looking at your stress levels, health, confidence levels and beauty of your heart is the core of where one’s beauty comes from. Thank you for reminding us all to take care of what’s inside!
