Maximize Your Quick Getaway

It’s always fun to have a break from home, especially when you work from home and homeschool! On a recent overnight getaway to La Quinta (just a short hour away from home), my family was able to enjoy a yummy breakfast and “Splash-cation” compliments of Embassy Suites.

When we arrived at the La Quinta Embassy Suites, I was surprised by the openness of the lobby area with plenty of seating for casual conversation. The hotel boasts an open-air atrium; spacious two-room suites; free cooked-to-order breakfast; and complimentary snacks and beverages during the evening Manager’s Reception. I was also told there was a library on site and we could check out board games to bring up to the room. A great bonus for a family stay! We were most excited to hit the pool!

Our room:

After picking up dinner and dining in our room, we headed out to the pool for a night swim. Once we returned to the room, the kids picked a movie to watch but I was surprised at the $13 price tag to rent the in-room movie! Wanting a little peace and quiet in the other room, we rented it for them.

Upon getting ready for bed, I discovered our room had no hot water. The front desk offered to send an engineer to fix the problem but I declined as we were all in our pajamas and the sofa coach was pulled out, taking up all the floor space. I said I’d call back in the morning.

The complimentary breakfast was amazing. With a chef making omelets fresh upon order, a full selection of toastable breads and muffins, cereal, fruit and breakfast meats, my family ate a free breakfast that could easily value at $25 per person! We felt secure that the food options were safe for our celiac daughter to eat since the omelet bar was away from any other food options. Having that peace of mind is not comment when eating out and we are grateful for the way Embassy Suites handles the food.  Being able to eat on-site also means we were able to spend more time doing the important stuff…playing at the pool!

After breakfast, we headed to the pool. The pool was small and in the day, crowded (everyone had the same idea we did!) but they did provide a jug of ice water and orange slices which tasted really fantastic. I thought that was a nice touch! There were plenty of clean towels to use and a small jacuzzi-sized splash pool for families with small children.  I was able to get 10 minutes of poolside lounging to myself:

We played at the pool for a couple of hours before heading back to the room to shower off and pack up. Unfortunately, there was still a lack of hot water in our room. There was a note that an engineer had come and fixed the problem so I’m not sure what the problem was. I’m pretty sure I know how to turn on hot water correctly. I was really disappointed.

Overall the stay was fine but I wouldn’t give it my best rating. Based on reviews by other bloggers in this program, there are some fantastic Embassy Suites out there. I would definitely stay at Embassy Suites again but I would not stay in La Quinta as it just did not meet my expectations. My first choice was a different location but it was already booked on the only night we could get away for this assignment. My husband used to stay at Embassy Suites when he traveled for work and he enjoyed his stays with them.

Have you stayed at Embassy Suites? What was your experience? If you have a short vacation planned this summer, will you consider a stay at Embassy Suites?

  1. That is pretty crazy about the hot water! Good thing it was a comp good for you, not so much for them.)

I will say that I have had great experiences at Embassy Suites. I have stayed several times with my family, and even had a few birthday parties there in my 20s. I was able to have a few friends stay over, play in the pool and enjoy the great custom breakfast–none of which was an option at my small apartment.

I hope they figure out their plumbing problems!

I know, crazy about the water! Larry has always enjoyed ES so I think it was just an unfortunate night. :/
