Domestic Violence: Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone. (National Domestic Violence Hotline)

How many of you know someone who has been affected by domestic violence? I was shocked to discover that someone I know has boldly stepped out of a relationship in which she was a victim of domestic violence. I also used to work with a shelter for battered women and children. My church would put on a Mother’s Day dinner and pampering for the women. Their stories were heart breaking and they were so brave to get out before their lives were taken. They are an inspiration.

3 out of 4 (74%) respondents to a Allstate Foundation National Poll on Domestic Violence 2004 personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence.  It’s time to end domestic violence.

You can help. Help a friend if you suspect or know that she suffers from domestic abuse. Get involved in your  state.  Share your story. Buy some shoes.

For every pair of shoes you buy at Marshalls between October 1-15, $1 — up to $150,000 —will be donated to the working efforts of National Domestic Violence Hotline. Marshalls has raised millions of dollars and generated tremendous awareness in an effort to help put an end to domestic violence in the United States through their annual Shop ’til it Stops program. Have fun shopping for their benefit!

These are the boots I saw in Boston that I simply had to have in black.  I haven’t found them yet!  I’d definitely buy them now to support this cause!

I was also contacted by Stephan who happen to be on a walk past the event and captured it on video.  Stephan has a friend who is a survivor.  Here a video partially sharing the day’s events with Tim Gunn and one of the survivors who spoke.
