One MAGnificent Makeover Compliments of MAGHOUND

Have you ever entered a contest and won? How excited were you? Well, Eileen entered the Maghound MAGnificent Makeover sweeps several months back and was ecstatic that she won (apparently to the disappointment of her daughter-in-law who was hoping to win herself!). She and her husband were flown in to New York City, put up for two nights at the Omni Berkshire Place Hotel and Eileen was treated to a day of pampering, primping and shopping! Take a look as she transforms from looking like a busy grandmother of 3, who works nights as a nurse, to looking like a rejuvenated woman ready to hit the city for dinner and a show with the love of her life.

Eileen with Bob, her husband of 41 years. Bob said he was excited to see how Eileen would look and was open to anything the team wanted to do.

Eileen at the Warren-Tricomi Salon in The Plaza Hotel, New York City.  She is just about ready to begin her transformation.

Eileen visits with Dave, CEO of Maghound, a magazine membership service. Thanks to Dave and Maghound, Eileen is about to experience a day like no other!  Read on to see her transformation!

Eileen consults with Holly, the Beauty Director at People StyleWatch magazine and Warren-Tricomi color specialist, Lauren.  Eileen is going to go from all-over gray to blonde.

Lauren begins the makeover by applying L’Oreal Professionnel INOA -the first ammonia-free permanent hair color that delivers true full coverage – including over greys! Coined as “the hair color of the future”, it is an oil-based delivery system that Lauren told me will actually bring hair back to a healthier condition with 2x more lipid protection than L’Oreal’s leading professional permanent hair color. This is an excellent choice to use on Eileen’s gray and dry hair type.

While Eileen relaxes at the bowl, Lauren does a highlighting treatment called balayage.  Designed to give a more natural look, balayage is a more artistic way to apply highlights.

Balayage is wrapped in plastic wrap instead of foil like traditional highlights.

After her color is complete, Eileen meets with Julian to talk about the cut and style.  Julian and Holly agree that Eileen should have a cut that can be “wash & go” or styled for a more polished look.  Eileen is a nurse at night and needs something low fuss.  With the cut that Julian gives her, she can still set it in rollers, as she is accustomed to doing, or add some gel and let it dry naturally.  Eileen has great natural wave that comes out with the layers that are added.

Using a small round brush, Julian gives Eileen a polished, modern style.  She’ll add waves with a half inch curling iron and finish with hairspray.

While her hair was styled, Eileen received a manicure with Essie nail polish in Ballet Slippers.

Eileen’s support system (her sister and niece) takes a break to look for prom hairstyles while they wait for her style to be finished.

Eileen is all smiles, loving the new cut and color she received.  With hair and nails done, it’s on to makeup!

Makeup artist Misty consults with Eileen on her choice of lip color- Clinique Earth Red.  The color is a bit dramatic for a bare faced Eileen (it’s her favorite and she wears it daily).  Misty shows her how to use it as a stain by applying it lightly with her finger rather than applying it thickly from the tube.

After applying a mixture of oil-free foundation and illuminator to Eileen’s face with a brush, Misty focuses her work to bring out Eileen’s eyes!  Her goal for Eileen’s overall look was for her to look warm and glowy!  Misty used several product lines but Becca Cosmetics and Laura Mercier were two of the most used brands.  My favorite part of the makeup, that made the most dramatic impact, was the addition of mascara!  Misty used L’Oreal Voluminous Naturale on Eileen.  It gave great definition to her beautiful eyes!

Adding a bit of bronzer to the cheeks adds a healthy, warm look to Eileen’s face.

Misty used two Laura Mercier lip pencils to fill in Eileen’s lips.  Starting with Baby Lips (a pretty pink tone) all over, she then added Chestnut to “brown it down”.  Adding to the final touch, Misty used a small amount of Eileen’s beloved Red Earth lipstick.

The finished look.  Polished and pretty but not dramatic.

Isn’t she lovely?

A few makeup tips from Misty that Eileen can use and so can you!

  • When starting your makeup, add a balm to your lips to soften them while you apply your face.  After your face is done and you are ready to do your lip color, gently run away any dead skin from your lips.
  • Paint your foundation on with a brush as a sponge absorbs the product.  Misty likes to apply her own makeup with her fingers for a light, natural touch.
  • Misty has some drugstore favorites including: L’Oreal Voluminous Natural that she used on Eileen, Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder and Maybelline’s mineral powder.
  • Don’t give up on a color if you really love it!  Try it in a variety of ways.  Eileen’s lipstick may have been too bold for everyday on a bare face but using it as a stain, applied with her finger, it gives a softer look.  Also, layering lip colors is a great way to change the tone of the color.
  • If you wear glasses, strongly define your eye with liner.
  • To make your eyeliner last longer, add a complimentary shadow color over top of it.

Eileen had a spectacular time at the salon!  She was so appreciative of “the day she’ll always remember”.  She looks amazing, has a hair color that helps make her hair healthier, a cut that is modern but simple to style in a way Eileen is familiar with it, makeup tips to help her look polished and a new way to wear her favorite lip color!  What a makeover!

Stay tuned for the shopping and fashion portion of Eileen’s makeover later in the week!
