Applying makeup is easier than you think! Too many Moms walk around with bare faces for fear of applying makeup wrong. If that is you, today is the day to make the change and start highlighting your gorgeous features. Everyday makeup is NOT for covering up or changing your look…it’s about enhancing what you have! You don’t have experience? You don’t know how? Well, guess what? The stuff washes off so practice, experiment and soon you’ll learn! (That’s what you tell your kids when they are learning something new, right?!)
Here is what you need to do:
- Make sure you have a good skincare regimen. Use a moisturizer every morning. Wash your face every night. If your skin is well cared for makeup will look better on.

- Get yourself used to the routine of putting on makeup. In the beginning, put on mascara and lip gloss…every day regardless if you’ll be spending it weeding the garden or out lunching with friends. You are creating a habit and that takes 21 days to establish- so stick with it! Having forgotten you applied mascara, you’ll catch a glimpse in the mirror and think, “Wow! I have great lashes. I never noticed before”! Then, you’ll be hooked! To find your perfect mascara, read the reviews by “real” women for Top Mascaras on Total Beauty.
- Once your habit of putting makeup on each day is established, add a product. Using an eyeshadow brush, put light base color eyeshadow all over your eye lid. It is so light, you won’t be able to mess it up, so don’t worry! The shadow will just even out the skin tone on your lids but it really makes a difference in brightening your eye area! As you grow in confidence, select a slightly darker shadow to apply over the base. Learn how to do it here.
- The next product to add is eyeliner. I can’t live without my eyeliner. Defining your eyes with eyeliner will immediately enhance your look and draw attention to the beauty of your eyes. Liner, even when worn alone, makes a statement. Use an eye pencil to begin as liquid takes a very steady hand and you’ll need practice. Use a deep purple, brown or navy color as it is more natural looking than black. Make sure to smudge the liner to soften the line. Not sure how to do it? Watch this video.
- Finally, foundation and blush. I put these products last as foundation seems to
“scare” a lot of women! They remember feeling “painted” or” heavy” when they used foundation in the past. Today’s formulas are light, natural and breathable! My favorite is L’Oreal Infallible. It has SPF and is super lightweight but covers well! If you have shiny skin, you may prefer a pressed powder instead of liquid foundation. MAC Studio Fix is a huge favorite among powder wearers and Bare Escentuals is the big name in Mineral Makeup! Add a light powder blush or bronzer to finish your face. Read these tips on how to find your right shade of foundation.
As you become more confident in what looks good on you and how to apply makeup, add more color and have fun with it (REALLY, it is fun)! Utilize the department store samples or take a makeup lesson at your local spa!
