I can’t believe that a press release about LEGWORK came in my InBox today after I just posted about my crazy attempt to wear 5″ heels (what was I thinking?!). When I wore the heels I felt very unstable, my posture was off, my arches were screaming and the shoes only stayed on my feet through the parking lot and back. Not that I want, or need, to ever wear 5″ inch heels ever again but I would like to feel more comfortable wearing 3.5+ inch heels. I’d like to walk like a model and feel like I pull it off nicely with good posture and happy feet.
So, what’s the big deal about LEGWORK High Heel Fitness Class & Walking in Heels Workshop? Apparently, it is a fitness workout designed to strengthen your legs so you do walk more confidently and painfree when wearing heels! Recently featured in Vogue, the LEGWORK concept was “spurred by the many unfortunate injuries and pain suffered by women in heels in contrast to the remarkable performance and endurance in heels enjoyed by professional Broadway dancers.”
What they promise:

LEGWORK is the first high heel instructional and fitness workout proven to increase sexiness, confidence and grace in heels. LEGWORK teaches the advanced high heel fitness and training routines of top Broadway dancers and was created in collaboration with ballerinas, women’s shoe designers, fitness experts and podiatrists. LEGWORK strengthens and tones legs and core, targeting specifically the upper and lower legs, abs, butt, the inner and outer thighs, calves, ankles and feet for stability, control and endurance in heels of all heights.
It sounds to me like a wonderful workout for any woman in any type of shoe! Who doesn’t need their legs, core and butt more toned?
I am all up for trying it! Next time I’m in NY, I’m there! Classes are $15 for an hour and a half class. The next class is Friday May 1 at 5 PM. BYOH (bring your own heels). Sign-up now. (If you are a mom in NY and can attend this class, please contact me ASAP! I’d love for you to go and do a write-up for A Mom in Red High Heels…including pictures!)
Since it may be a while before I get back to NY, I’m looking at buying the DVD (workout also available on iPod Video) for only $14.95.
And finally, a tip from LEGWORK that we can all benefit from:
Stiletto Stretch 101: Calf & Achilles Relief
Calves tight and achy? Waking up with calf cramps? This quick stretch takes seconds and will give instant relief and muscle balance. In bare feet, place the ball of the foot against a wall and leave your heel in contact with the floor while leaning forward into the wall. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds then repeat with the other leg. Stretch before, during and after wearing heels. And as needed. This will stretch and relieve the calf muscles, achilles tendons and prevents painful muscle cramping.
