California Casual Style: Lauren Conrad Partners with Kohls

    By Tammy | October 14, 2009

    lc_lauren_conrad

You all know who Lauren Conrad is, right?  Famous for The Hills and her young Hollywood fashion inspirations.  Lauren worked the Fashion Shows in LA last season but I remember hearing comments about the costly price of the simple designs.  The designs and prices didn’t seem to translate well into everyday life, even for Hollywood.  When she put a stop to production in March of this year, it was rumored that, “Lauren is going to revamp her line and design with more high-end fabrics . . . things she couldn’t do the first time around,” a source close to Conrad said. So, instead of revamping the line and doing more high-end, Lauren became more realistic with her line and the economy.

LC Lauren Conrad is now a a contemporary lifestyle brand offered exclusively at Kohls.

“Partnering with a successful national retailer like Kohl’s supports my mission to make great clothing accessible to young women everywhere,” said Lauren Conrad. “The collection is a reflection of my personal style and will offer fresh, California Casual designs at an affordable price.”

I expected, after reading that comment in a Kohls’ press release, that the collection would be found in the juniors department. I began to wonder if my local Kohls hadn’t started carrying the line yet when I couldn’t find it. Asking a helpful associate put that idea to rest. Behind Simply Vera Vera Wang, the staple high-end of Kohls’ women’s department; behind Daisy Fuentes and Elle, I was directed to LC Lauren Conrad (I guess maybe the brand has to prove itself to move up in floor space!).

I was actually pleasantly surprised by what I saw from LC Lauren Conrad. The styles and cuts of Lauren’s collection were right up my alley. I love a slouchy top, a simple cut on a dress that can be layered over leggings or worn alone; a boyfriend blazer that is cut short so it doesn’t fall at the hip line accentuating my widest point. I tried on several pieces and if budget would have allowed, I think I would have purchased every piece!

I ended up taking home the most versatile piece for my wardrobe, the Brushstroke Sheath Dress. I love the detail of the back zipper, which adds a little edginess to the simple design of the dress. I bought the dress in Teal (called Paint Blue). I plan to wear it over leggings with boots in the cool weather. I could even layer a long sleeve tee under it. On warmer days, it will be a fun piece to wear with strappy sandals!

LC Lauren Conrad Brushstroke Sheath Dress

The dress I really loved for the feel and detail of the neckline was the Watercolored Ruffle Dress. This dress is flirty, lined and in red, would love fantastic with my red Vivienne Tam boots. I hesitated to purchase it as the stock belt that accompanies the dress was too large for me and hung with the bad fit. It obviously wouldn’t do and my buying the dress would mean buying a belt to go with it. So, I left it hanging on the rack. A few days later I went back to get it and my size was gone. I see that sizes are also limited online so if you try this dress and love it, get it! You can always buy a belt if you have the same problem I did. I’m not giving up on the dress. If I see it again in my size, I will own it!

LC Lauren Conrad Watercolor Ruffled Dress

I think Lauren did a great job with this collection. Realizing, of course, that her slouchy tees,, distressed boyfriend jeans and flowing styles may not appeal to everyone’s fashion likes, I do think if you embrace the “California Casual” style that Lauren worked to create, then you will love this collection.

Retail prices range from $20 to $60.

I LOVE the new LC Lauren Conrad line. There is not one piece in this line that I wouldn’t wear. I guess it’s hard for me to define my style right now. I’m pregnant, so I’m trying to have style in spite of that. I love the California Casual look, but I’m also really into versatile dresses that I can wear to work, yet wear home or out to dinner, too. I guess I want my style to be “Stylish Working Mom” and I hope I”m achieving that!

I think I am ‘Comfy/Proper’ or I guess you could call it ‘Casual Proper’. I am definitely casual but I do try to stay away from frumpy. I can’t help but love a great pair of jeans and a flattering fitted tee. That is my daily uniform but I enjoy it and feel comfortable. So, sue me. I do need to accessorize better though. With a young child, I am afraid he will pull something off of me and ruin it. I love the Dress you found. So great! Good luck finding your size!

I just saw her line last week at Kohls and I love it! There are some adorable dresses and tops!

My style is pretty classic, although I’m at the point now that I find myself torn between looking too matronly in stuff I find in the women’s section and feeling dumb looking at some of the nicer stuff in the juniors department. Her stuff is the perfect in-between :) I don’t have to look like an old washed up Mom and I don’t have to wear stuff that a teenager would wear :)

Lauren is going places! Her pieces look great. They have that Anthropologie feel, which is always a good thing.

My style… that’s a tough one. If I had my choice I’d be in comfy jeans and a cute tee, usually with a pair of flip flops. If I’m getting a little dressier I go jeans and cute girl shirt. When its work, I’m classic all the way. I’m mainly California cas. (with a tiny bit of frumpy mom on occasion – I confess).

I like to think that I am California Casual but I really need to get some new clothes as I don’t want to be “Frumpy Mommy”.

I don’t really think I have an actual style. I wear what is comfortable and easy. I would choose California Casual but at times I’m sure I come off as a Frumpy Mommy! :)

I love Lauren, but couldn’t afford her previous line, so I was so glad she came out with one at Kohl’s, we have a Kohl’s right next door!. I really like dresses for going out, but really am just a comfortable type. I love the jeans and t-shirts. I guess I have a more rocker style.

I wouldn’t consider myself stylish, as I have 2 active kids. But when I am able to escape, I would choose California Casual, tho I probably look like frumpy mommy when i’m with them

I think this is a much better fit for LC’s line!

My style… I would call it urban girly or something. Sort of casual but with feminine details and a bit of a rocker vibe. I love Sienna Miller’s and Kate Moss’ style – I don’t have the same figure, but I love the way they dress!

    14. Fit Mommy Says:
      October 20th, 2009 at 7:02 am

I’d love to try the new Lauren Conrad line. My daily style is more on the lines of yummy looking yoga clothes but on the weekends I’d like to be more “in style”.

I’m definitely a California Casual kind of gal, as long as that includes jeans and a stylin’ tee!

Have to say I am a combination of a lot of the styles. I have been told that I have an eccletic style so.. here would be my picks..
California Casual / Prim & Proper / Frumpy Mommy…as for the Frumpy Mommy…I’ve been sick for a week and I don’t even match today so you just have to call it what it is!

    17. Connie Says:
      October 20th, 2009 at 3:21 pm

I mix it up quite a bit – one day edgy, the next preppy. Depends on my mood for the day.

I love pretty much everything at Kohls and am so excited to read about this line! I would say my personal style is Boho Ballerina Classic (I have no idea what that means, by the way.. But no other way to describe!) I love classic structure, with a twist. If Natalie Portman and Kate Hudson combined their style…that would be it. (Come to think of it, they both have no boobs- like me… Maybe that’s the connection?)

    19. Kim Says:
      October 20th, 2009 at 6:21 pm

I guess my personal style is a little bit of staying comfy and a little bit of hoping to look good!! I love Kohls and hope Lauren Conrad’s line does fabulous!!!!

Can I be an Arizona Casual girl instead? ;)

My outfit of choice is typically a pair of dark wash jeans, a cute top, and boots (or my El Naturalista clogs…they are the BEST).

I’m all of the above. Just depends on the day, where I’m going and who I will be with. I love dressing casual, a pair of skinny jeans & layered t, I love getting totally chic, tailored is fun for the right affair, sweats are girls best friend when laying around the house on a cold day.

Thanks for the great preview on the new line!

I love casual clothes (jeans & tees), comfortable fit. But I also love old-fashioned feminine clothes, I guess I am as eclectic in my clothes as my decorating!

I am not sure what my style is..maybe preppy/casual. I like clothing that is fitted but, I also like to be comfortable. I am not big on trends at all…(okay…maybe in shoes and accessories). It really just depends on the events of the day. Thanks for the chance!
