Kim Kardashian has broken the Internet again, this time with just one body part. I mean her hair, what were you thinking?? After a recent drastic haircut (or was it just removing extensions…?), Kim has made another huge change…to platinum blonde!
Love it or hate it, Kim is a very dark brunette who has gone drastically blonde, and miraculously still has her hair.
If you are considering a change like this, I have one word for you: Olaplex! This revolutionary technology strengthens and protects hair, allowing colorists to really push the envelope and do more than ever before, without damaging the hair. Just check out Olaplex’s Instagram page, and you will see makeover after makeover, showing hair that actually looks healthier AFTER being lightened!
When lightening dark hair, multiple processes are usually needed. I would have used Olaplex in each step, as well as doing Olaplex reparative treatments between them. This would ensure the bonds inside the hair stay strong, preventing breakage. When making a big change such as this, it is imperative to see a professional with the right tools to keep your hair in tip-top condition. Olaplex is my secret weapon! And it’s not just for lightening; Olaplex can help prevent/repair chemical damage, heat damage, even the damage you do to your own hair by brushing it or yanking on tangles.
Testimonials will tell you that the hair doesn’t just look healthier, it feels healthier, too! The hair is clearly stronger, more flexible, and resistant to breakage. It combs through more easily (and without snapping), dries faster, and is livelier…like younger, healthier, non-damaged hair (if we can remember what that was like…)
A few of my own “wow” moments with Olaplex, from my Instagram:
But back to Kim. She has flirted with blonde before, using highlights, balayage, ombre, extensions, and even wigs:
But this is a much more dramatic change, and overall look. What do you think it? I like that she did something drastic and edgy! Sometimes we do things just for fun, and for a change (you know, like that coral you bought and wore twice.) Shall we take bets on how long she keeps it…?
UPDATE: It seems Kim’s toner faded a bit too fast. In the original salon pic (top of post), it was an pale, neutral blonde, but in pics taken around Paris, it was starting to look yellowish.\ only a few days later.
Kim was seen leaving a Paris salon with almost-white hair, after apparently having another visit to treat her locks. There are still hints of yellow, and teeny-tiny roots, which lead me to believe she had a very icy toner, but didn’t lighten it again. What I can see, however, is that it is really starting to look like a cotton ball. I sure hope she starts using Olaplex, or she may end up with a pixie cut (or a wig) soon…it’s not too late, Kim! Olaplex treatments can work real magic on damaged hair!!
My favorite way to battle brassy blonde? Take home a maintenance toner, ideally one that is also conditioning. My favorite is Igora Toning Mousse, a conditioning treatment that also maintains hair color. It is available in a variety of shades, at Schwarzkopf salons. We love it! For pale blondes looking to maintain cool look, I would recommend 9,5-1 (cool blonde) or 9,5-12 (extra cooling). As a bright cooper redhead, I use 8-77. There’s a shade for everyone!
