How To Get Kate Gosselin’s Great New Hairstyle

Kate Gosselin surprised us all with a softer, prettier hairstyle on Tuesday’s episode of The View. I asked readers what they thought of the change.   As of today, these are the results:

  • 65% thought she made a good move by updating her look. Not only does it give her a more approachable look (which I think she desperately needed), but it gives her a new confidence (which she also needed due to the life changes she faces).
  • 24% of you said “Whatever…”. Can you hear the attitude in that comment? No, we don’t all care when a sort-of TV celebrity changes her hair. It’s not going to affect our lives and it’s certainly not going to make us think differently of her.
  • 11% actually missed the signature asymmetrical bob that she wore for years.

The truth is, people do care.  The Fairest reports that on Tuesday, Kate Gosselin’s new hairstyle was the #2 Google Trend reported for the day!  Wow, that is a lot of people who want to get a glimpse at Kate’s new hair!

For those that do care and perhaps would like to duplicate her look, I asked Jordana Lorraine of Lorraine Colour Bar in Santa Monica, CA to give us a breakdown of what to ask for at the salon:

Color: Kate’s new look has brightened up her face and the desk of the The View!  She’s gotten a lot more highlights, in two different shades on top of her beige base color. It’s blonde, beautiful, and shows off her new curls. But be careful…a blonder shade means more obvious roots, so be prepared to have your color and highlights done about every 6 weeks.

Cut: Don’t be afraid to bringing in a picture, but if you don’t have one or prefer to use your words, ask for a cut that is short and graduated in the back, but jawbone-length in front. If worn straight, it will resemble Posh’s bob, without the extensions that made it longer in front.

Style: For a softer style, as Kate premiered Tuesday, use a medium-sized curling iron (1 to 1.5″) to add soft waves. A styling spray such as OSMO Root lifter will help the curls stay put. Spray 7-10 times through longer areas when wet, then blow-dry with head turned upside down. Use a brush to smooth the back into place, then take large, uneven sections from the front and sides to curl–this type of sectioning will help avoid the perfect-ringlet look. 5-7 sections on each side should do it. To achieve the lift in the front like Kate, don’t curl that top piece all the to the root. Give it an extra spritz and blowdry it up for a moment. Use fingers to shake curls out.

I personally think Kate did a good thing by making the change.  If you haven’t voted yet, you can give us your opinion on Kate Gosselin Gets A New Look
