It’s OK to Say NO!

Mom and ChildThe following article is very heart-felt. Get your Kleenex out! It is reprinted with permission from Holly Rigsby, author of Fit Yummy Mummy. Please take to heart what she has to say and get your life prioritized!

“It’s OK to say No! I did and guess what…the world did not fall apart.

Instead the world around me become much more clear and meaningful.

The Call
I received the call as Patrick and I waited in the Cincinnati airport for our final flight home to Louisville.

It was my son. He was having a seizure.

His dad was in the ambulance, trying to tell me what had happened through panic stricken sobs. There were no answers, just the paralyzing fear that my child was hurting and there was nothing I could do.

The plane ride to Louisville was a complete blur. We could not get to the emergency room fast enough. When we arrived the overwhelming feeling of joy and relief took over my emotions as I looked into Tyler’s tired little eyes. His smile lit up my heart as he happily grabbed his souvenirs from our trip to New York.

The past two days have not only been spent trying to find answers, but have also been rearranged to spend quality time with Tyler. Truly appreciating the little things and eating up every precious minute with him.

In order to make this happen, I have had to say “no” to a long list of tasks that had been waiting for me after traveling for a week. My priorities shifted and adjustments were made. And the world did not fall apart as many of us fear will happen if we do not try to get it all done.

As a busy mom it is way to easy to get caught up in the endless list of daily “to do’s”.

There will always be too much to do. This is a given. But the time we have with those we love is not.

This experience was a blessing in disguise for it has provided me with an entirely new perspective. I hope you will take a moment today and ask yourself what is most important to you and make the time to spend it with those you love.
