If Only We Could Be Happy…
By Tammy | March 31, 2008
Motivation is powerful only if it’s the right kind for you. In the Monday Motivation series, I hope that you’ll catch a glimpse of something that speaks clearly to you! This Monday, I am taking an excerpt from Climbing Mountains in Stilettos. This particular piece is discussing obsession with calorie counting and your body size.
“Think about all the collective creative feminine energy and potential that has been wasted on counting calories, restricting, binging, shaming, and despising our bodies. Think of all the poems, plays, and novels that could have been written; the symphonies, choruses, and songs that could have been composed; the sculptures and paintings created, the social change enacted; the policies implemented; and the companies started if only it weren’t for the business of counting calories If only we could be happy or even just satisfied with our bodies, we could be free to change the world with our creative and intellectual expression.
By tuning inward and focusing on our defects and imperfections, we are denying the world of our unique contributions. We don’t have to be perfect looking or acting to contribute and create. We don’t have to look like Malibu Barbie before our lives can begin. They can start right now- whether we’re shaped like a pear, a strawberry, an apple, a butternut squash, or a carrot. All are delicious.”
I invite you to consider this writing this week. It applies to whatever area of your life you obsess about whether it is counting calories, when you’ll fit your next workout in, how you’ll get the next blog entry written or even which outfit you’ll wear tomorrow. Obsessing, worrying, and thinking about “what-ifs” are a waste of your time. Get real…get organized and start making a change in your world! Please share your thoughts in the comments below!
I’ve shared with you from this book before. Read it here for more great motivating thoughts!
