How-to Create a Basket Weave Half-Updo

Valentine’s Day is nearly here so I wanted to share a special DIY hairstyle with you! I stopped in at Evans & Co. Salon and had stylist Angela Mupo walk me through a gorgeous Basket Weave Half-Updo. We took pictures to help you recreate this look at home.

Angela shared that hair trends are still calling for loose curls, soft profiles and braids. This style perfectly combines all these trends!

Step 1: section and tease

Step 1: Tease crown in 3 sections, using Redken Powder Grip for texture and fullness.

Step 2: Smooth the top of crown and spray with hairspray

Step 3: section front of hair on both sides

Step 3: section by the ear, on each side

Step 4: Create 3 small braids on each side

Step 4: Create 3 small braids on each side

Step 4: part each section in half and create 4 small braids. Repeat on other side

Step 5: Bring all the braids to back of head and secure

Step 5: Pull braids to back of head. Overlap to hide bands. Pin each section.

Step 6: Bring all the braids to back of head and secure

Step 6: Smooth style as needed, camouflage ends that may be sticking out.

Step 7: Twist remain hair just above the ear and bring it to back of head. Secure

Step 7: Twist remaining front section back toward back of head. Repeat on each side.  You may opt to leave hair down near your face for extra softness of the style.

Step 8: Touch up curls
Step 8: freshen any curl

Step 9: Smile, you look gorgeous

You may need to practice a time or two to get the braids smoothly tucked but once you master this style it will be a new go-to look for you! It’s fun, compliment-inducing and keeps your hair out of your face in such a sexy way!
