My favorite season for fashion is fall. The season gives the opportunity to showcase a variety of textures and styles with each outfit (without having to cover it all up with a heavy coat, like winter). It’s the season for really using the many choices in your existing wardrobe and making the most of any new items you add to your collection! When dressing in fall, it’s all about the layers! You may start the day bundled up in the crisp morning, only to take off layers throughout the day as the sun warms the air. Fall dressing also allows you to wear your fabulous basics in new ways as I demonstrate in the outfit below. Some women are intimidated with layering and fear they may “get it wrong”. So here are a few ideas to help you layer on your next look:
Layering, Step 1: Start with moisturizer.
Layering REALLY begins with what you put on your skin. Fall weather is typically dry and hard on your skin. You need to take a few extra moments to apply a great moisturizer before pulling on your panties! Keeping your skin happy is going to help you look better in your clothes too because you won’t be scratching dry, itchy skin! T.J. Maxx has a great selection of moisturizers, creams and seasonal beauty potions (pumpkin vanilla scent, anyone??) for your “first layer.”
Layering, Step 2: Undergarments.
Great style is established with undergarments. When your bra and panties fit smoothly over your body, your clothes will look better. Did you know T.J. Maxx has an excellent selection of unmentionables from tights to panties to slips to bras…everything you need to give your look a fabulous foundation.
Layering, Step 3: The Base Piece.
For Indian Summer days, this sweater dress is perfect to pair with ankle boots. I love how the skirt of the dress is swingy and flirty. This designer brand dress has a navy/black pattern and hugs the body perfectly! This is a piece I can wear again and again in a variety of looks…now that is value!
Layering, Step 4:
When the temperatures drop and become a bit more “brisk”, I pull over a light sweater and add higher boots. I layer on the jewelry too! I could also add a scarf for a pop of color. A scarf is a super versatile layering piece that can really change up the look of your outfit!
Tip: Use a variety of fabrics when layering for a more interesting look! I am so in love with the back detail of this name brand sweater that I found at T.J. Maxx. The attached sheer shell adds another layer and texture to the look. The back detail is an unexpected little surprise!
Layering, Step 5:
Once the weather hits “chilly” it is time to layer on the shapewear tights and faux-fur vest! The look is cozy, has a ton of texture and doesn’t feel bulky.
See why fall is such a great season for fashion? So many options!
T.J. Maxx is also full of options! I found the dress, sweater and tights for this outfit while shopping there. I’m not a “designer snob” and I don’t have to wear name brand but designer brands do tend to be made with higher quality fabrics and stitching, as well as fit better. When I find them at such a great price at T.J. Maxx, I scoop them up. Their high-quality construction helps them last for a long time, giving me maximum value for my purchase!
Anyone else ready to hit T.J. Maxx? You may just find me at the new location near my house this weekend shopping for more great layering options! Whoo Hoo!
