Nearly Every Hour An American Dies of Melanoma

No matter the age, race, or gender, skin cancer doesn’t discriminate, especially during the summer season. In fact, the American Cancer Society reports one American dies of melanoma almost every hour and 68,130 cases of malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, were diagnosed in 2010.

This summer, will you protect your skin and the skin of those you love? I confess, I’m not consistent at applying sunscreen to my kids when they just go out to play. Of course, when we spend a long time in the sun or go swimming, we always apply but that’s only part of the time they are in the sun! The rest of the time, their sweet, innocent skin is exposed to the damage of the rays. I’m making it an effort to be more on top of that this summer. Hats and sunscreen for everyone!  Starting kids on the sunscreen habit will reduce their risk of skin damage, wrinkles and possible melanoma in the future!

Here are my top 4 recommended sunscreens to use this summer.

Something for everyone…

AVEENO® Baby Natural Protection Sunblock Stick with SPF 50+ for Face: This handy little stick is convenient to take along and is so easy to apply. The risk of getting sunscreen in the eye of a wiggle child is practically nothing with this! It contains MINERALBLOCK Technology with 100% naturally-sourced active ingredients. It gives great coverage too! (Not just for babies!)

StriVectin-SH™ Age Protect SPF 30: This one is for you!  From a company that knows quality skin care, this New StriVectin product contains the same NIA-114™ molecule that was discovered in skin cancer research to help rebuild skin’s natural protective barrier and reverse signs of aging.  Use daily over your daily moisturizer for every day protection.  *In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness month this May, StriVectin® is donating a percentage of proceeds from the online sale of New StriVectin-SH™ Age Protect SPF 30 purchased on strivectin.com from May 1st through May 31st to The Skin Cancer Foundation.

AVEENO® HYDROSPORT™ Sunblock Spray with SPF 85: The perfect solution for all over body coverage. Spray on and it stays on. Seriously. I put some on before going to the pool on Monday and you couldn’t even tell I had been out in the sun. Great protection plus quick and easy.  Just our speed!

ANEW SOLAR ADVANCE Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 45: Use as your daily moisturizer on days you’ll be out and about. SPF 45 is a great number to use even when you are just running errands around town.  Your guy will love this one too!

Don’t forget your neck, arms, chest (if exposed in a scoop or V-neck) and hands too!  The first 3-day weekend of the season is upon!  Smear, spray or slather on the SPF!  We want you-and your skin- to stay healthy!

Starting kids off early to form the habit of putting on sunscreen is great advice. Even on those cloudy days of spring and summer, those harmful UV rays still are able to come through and impact of the skin. One way to make sure of getting sunscreen on for the day is to add it as part of your morning skin care regimen. So while you nourish your skin in the morning, you make sure to protect it before you go out for the day.

Absolutely, positively, Must-Have!  Remember in high altitude and on cloudy days, you can burn more than a sunny day because you are tricked into thinking your skin is safe from the sun.  Wrong!  Apply the SPF immediately each morning!  If you have a tinted moisturizer with SPF, even better! You can go sans face makeup! [...]
