New Hot Mama Wants To Stay Hot but Needs Low Maintenance Hair

A brand new mom for a second time, Chelsea is willing to let her long hair go…for now.  She is willing to sacrifice her gorgeous long hair, that she’s patiently been growing out, for the best interest of her new role as mom of 2.  She’s not willing to give up her chic look just because she’s a new mom again.  Chelsea proudly calls herself a ‘hot mama’, so is definitely in need of a cut that fits her personality!

Chelsea says:

I’ve been growing my hair for about 4 years (very proud of that, it grows slow!) and now I’m a new mom again (2nd baby, girl, born 12days ago! And my 1st is almost 5!). I need a low maintenance cut. My hair gets in the way of breast feeding, especially for night feeds, and I’m tired of the ponytail or monster clip to keep it out of my way. I LOVE my natural red hair and am sad to cut it off but need to for this juncture in my life. Washing, combing, drying & styling is just taking too much time & energy! I’ve had hair as short as the pixie and loved it but am thinking it’s high maintenance too, not to mention the frequency of haircuts to keep it looking good. So, maybe a bob? But there are so many, what would be good for my face? And where is the best place to donate? Locks of Love or Pantene Beautiful Lengths or …? AND I’m fine with high or low lights but just can’t do a complete color job.

Thanks,
Hot Mama Chelsea (who’d love some red high heals!)

I turned to the expert advice of the Neil and Amanda, co-owners of the Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills, who are an important part of the Beauty Task Force on A Mom in Red High Heels. They offer their recommendations to Chelsea:

Neil says:

I know it’s hard after growing it for so long, but just like you said, it will be SO much easier once you cut it off. You should do a just above shoulder length graduated bob, a la Gwyneth Paltrow. This is a classic cut that doesn’t need much upkeep, and looks great when it’s growing out too. The graduation in the back will make it look youthful and fresh.

Amanda says:

Don’t touch your color! It looks gorgeous just as it is, you’re so lucky to have that beautiful natural base. But if you feel desperate for a change, you could do lowlights in fall/winter, and a few highlights around the face in spring/summer.

Editor’s Note: Chelsea, you sound like you are ready and willing to make this change so I hope you send us an update after you cut you hair! I think any organization you donate your hair to will be very pleased and will be used to help someone very special.  Enjoy your new look and your new baby.  Just remember to keep you hair in good shape with regular trimmings and use Neil George Indian Gooseberry Treatment Oil to keep it super healthy, shiny and silky.
