I don’t think I’m alone in my struggle with growing older. Actually, it’s not the fact that I’m aging, it’s that fact that I LOOK like I’m aging. I hate to be a big fat whiner but the fact of the matter is, I get a little embarrassed by my reflection on some days. The fine lines are getting deeper, the dark spots seems to be multiplying and, is that sagging I see? ugh.

I am diligent about skin care. I really am. I’m not so diligent about sun exposure. I ALWAYS wear an SPF (my moisturizer has a 20 SPF) but I do love the warmth of the sun. My Chihuahua and I hate being cold and you’ll often find us snuggled together in the tiny corner of the yard that offers sun on a winter afternoon. I realize I should wear a hat and turn my face away from the direct sunlight but more often than not, that doesn’t happen. With each exposure, I’m adding to the damage (yes, even with sunscreen).

I use all kinds of creams, gels and at-home treatments to attempt to reverse the dark spots (breakout scars) and fine lines, especially those around my mouth. It is time to get more aggressive because it’s not fun to look like I’m aging (I am NOT one of those who believes in aging gracefully.  Nope, I’m going to fight it every step of the way!).

I was issued a Home Microderm Abrasion Device from Best Buy to test as part of their blogger program. I admit, I was super excited to blast off the top layer of my aging skin (that’s what it is, right?!).  High-tech beauty gadgets have to work, right?

When you age, your skin cells do not turn over as quickly. You need to help it to keep your skin fresh, radiant and clear. Exfoliating helps…a lot! Exfoliating on a regular basis helps slow down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Personal MicroDerm tool is your answer to weekly treatments at home!

The first thing I found out is that it is NOT a chargeable tool. I assumed I plugged the tool in, let it charge then uplugged to use. This is not the case. Please note, the tool stays plugged in during the use. The cord is long so there is not an issue of reaching if you are near a plug during treatment.

I did have a single run-in with the tool. After watching the accompanying instructional CD, I was ready (though a little nervous) to give the tool a try. The instructions warned not to allow the tool to hover over one spot for too long but I didn’t know how long was “too long.” Apparently more than a second is. I think I was expecting the vacuum to take a moment to work by clearing out clogged pores and releasing trapped dirt and oil but it all happens very quickly. As a warning to you, keep the tool moving! I was frustrated to have another mark on my face when I was actually using the tool to help eliminate spots! The price of beauty can be painful but I hope you’ll learn from my experience and it won’t happen to you!

Overall, the first use was productive. My skin felt smoother and looked clearer, brighter. I had a blemish that healed quicker!  My skin did not feel agitated nor “raw”.  I also used it on the back of my hands as age is showing there as well.

I used the tool with success (um, no burn marks!) a second time, a week later. I focused my efforts on my chin where I have some dark acne spots and around my nose where I feel I need the most help keeping blackheads from appearing. Results start to really show in about 6 weeks…I can’t wait!

Dr. Oz featured the Personal MicroDerm tool on his show as a must-have for women over 40!  Yep, that’s me…40.  Are you closing in on that age or have you passed it?  Give the Personal MicroDerm a try!

Professional microderm abrasion treatments can cost $75-200 per treatment! Compared to visits to a dermatologist or spa, this at-home beauty tool is a great value!

I have received the reviewed product from Best Buy for free
