Hairstyle How-To: 2 Quick Updos to Get Your Hair Out of Your Face

The red carpet it always inspiring and gives us a glimpse at trends.  Two styles on the Grammy Red Carpet had me thinking that we busy moms should have a number of quick updos that we know how to do in case we have a day with NO time to get ready (um…every day??)!

Celebrity stylist, Julia Papworth, shares how to do these two updo hairstyles at home:

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez knocked it out of the park when it came to hair and makeup at the 2013 Grammy Awards. To get JLo worthy hair start by brushing all of your hair into a sleek high ponytail. Then, using a drop of serum on your hands start to twist your hair onto itself. Fasten with bobby pins and finish with a medium hold hairspray and a shine spray. One of the best things about Jennifer’s bun was that it did not look like a traditional topknot. Embrace the uniqueness of whatever shape your create!

Bonus Makeup Tutorial:

For Jennifer’s makeup it was really all about her skin. After applying foundation and concealer, apply bronzer – my favorite is Lorac Tantalizer Baked Bronzer – to places on the face that would naturally be hit by the sun. A rose color blush made the cheeks glow even more. For the eyes, dust a medium brown shadow across the lids and accentuate the brow bone with a neutral ivory color.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift rocked a gorgeous Grecian look to the Grammys this year. To recreate the hair, start with two braids at the top of your head. Braid each going down opposite sides of your head until you reach just behind your ears and then begin to incorporate the rest of your hair into the braid. French braid the rest of the hair on each side and pin it up onto itself. Rough up the braid a bit with your hands so you can see some texture.

Bonus Makeup Tutorial:

For makeup like Taylor Swift use a medium gray eye shadow across your lid, and blend it slightly upwards to create a delicate cat eye effect. Line the entire eye with a black liner such as MAC eye kohl in Smolder, and apply mascara. Taylor used a peach blush and a matte lip in a berry tone to finish the look.

Bottom line- skip the boring ponytail and go for something more fabulous! These styles are easy, take little time and will have that hair off your face before you have to rush out the door!
