Before Elin Nordegren was America’s favorite scorned woman, before she was the PGA’s Sweetheart’s Sweetheart, she was a successful International model. Now, Elin emerges from the drama looking better than ever. How can you get her look from the new People magazine cover? Here are a few tips:
Color: If you don’t happen to be Swedish, you may need more help getting blonde than Elin does. But based on her new photo, it looks like she’s had a boost, too! In older photos, Elin appears to have a very light ash blonde (probably natural) with some pale highlights (probably assisted.) But Elin’s new look has a golden glow which warms and brightens her overall tone. Natural ash or “dirty” blondes can easily achieve this with a gentle color painted around highlights, or done first and highlighted over. Ladies with a darker natural color must be careful when going so light; it may turn warmer than you like, and/or require more maintenance. Consider highlights in several colors, rather than a full color applied to your entire head, to avoid unwanted brassiness.
Cut: This cut is best for those with hair that is thick but fine, and straight (or wavy if you’re willing to blowdry it straight.) She has long layers around the face and crown, which are tapered softly to lay naturally if air-dried but perk up when styled for volume (like on the People cover.) This is more simple, sophisticated and versatile than the more layered looks we’ve seen Elin wear in the past.
Style: To keep hair smooth but add body and volume, blowdry upside down with your fingers until hair is half dry; use a spray like OSMO Essence Bodifying Root Lifter at the roots then finish blowdrying with a large round brush. The trick to choosing a round brush size used to achieve body only is this: you want a brush that your hair will wrap around one to one and a half times. If you can wrap your hair around it twice or more, the brush is too small as it will make more of a curl than just bounce and body. Finish with a light, flexible spray.
